Sorry I don’t have time right now to wade through the forum this very minute, sure I’m the 800th person to ask this today.
Mainly I just want my tv to turn on in the morning to serve as an alarm clock. What’s a solid device on the market that’ll serve this purpose and can hopefully be used to control every tv/monitor, audio system, ps3, etc throughout the house? Is there another device in particular it works with to add voice command as well?
How does the IR reach every tv, btw? Is it a single device that communicates with slave IR transmitters scattered throughout the house?
I’ve been struggling with good reliable IR control of devices via my Vera as well. I’ve recently gone through some test cases involving the various models of the iTach device wifi-to-ir (http://www.amazon.com/Global-Cache-iTach-Wi-Fi-WF2IR/dp/B0051BU418/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1423531603&sr=8-1&keywords=itach). Bottom line is that this does not work too well with UI7. It may work ok if you’ve got a relatively simple task of turning one tv on but for robust IR control for multiple devices in a complex AV environment coupled with UI7 is not ideal.
My research has lead me that the following is the best option; I have yet to try it myself but it looks very promising:
Both options will require line of sight to communicate the IR signal to the AV equipment. the hub itself is wi-fi enabled so you’re sending IR commands over wi-fi. you will need a hub in each area that you have av equipment that you want to control.
Is your TV connected to the network? If so, you may be able to switch it on that way. I use my Yamaha receivers as alarm clocks as they are networked and there is a Vera plugin for it even… That may be another route to consider.
I have just managed to get Vera to connect to HomeVison home automation control. HV is capable of storing 255 IR commands also send X10 commands. HV is connected to an Ethernet to serial link. So vera sends commands over the network
