iPort in-wall iPad/iPod Touch mounting solution

I browsed the forums but couldn’t find an appropriate place to post this, so…

Has anyone tried these?

link

They’re a pretty penny, but look like a great way to mount an iPod in-wall as a permanent home controller. If I had unlimited funds, I’d put one of these in each main room with an iPad or iPod Touch running HomeWave.

EDIT: I’m VERY interested in solutions others have found for in-wall iOS device mounting. Thanks!

i’m very interested in this as well - there seem to be a decent number of options available but curious about anyone’s real world experience? i have an ipad 1 that i’d like to mount on the wall and run roomie/sqremote/homewave/something but the mounting (and power) bit are obviously critical to this plan…

thanks

Would you consider Android devices for this purpose?

As they will likely only run a couple of core apps on each device, you could try the likes of what is available on geekbuying.com

Shipping is free so you could buy one, and try it out first.

Lots of good wall mounts on ebay and even those on hedgie.net might suit too.

If you’re asking me–no, I would not. HomeWave is just too good. Perfect for an in-wall controller.

I made my on wall mount for my Samsung Tab 2 7" Tablet. It was fairly easy once you get power to the device which I used a power over Ethernet device. I cut a hole in the drywall the same size as the tablet plus a small cut out to accommodate the power cable. Screwed a board on the back to support the tablet and used double sided tape to attach the tabled to the board behind the drywall. I then modified a picture frame, cutting off the sides using a Dremel tool to make the frame flush and attached with Velcro.

Looks good, and welcome to the forum.

Agreed,

I was first leaning towards an Android tablet and I still think it would have worked out really well but Home Wave is just too cool. I’ll be officially confiscating the 2nd gen iPad from my wife (of course I’ll have to replace it) and installing it in an IW2000 mount.

Uhm… I don’t know why I did this, because I’ve searched for the iPort mount 5-6 times before, but I just Googled & found this:

iPort IW2000 for $59?!?

To good to be true, I think…

EDIT: I think this is a partial kit or a trim kit… not the full iPad mount kit.

Yes, definitely too good to be true. I guess this so called fit kit allows an iPad2/3 to be installed in the IW2000 (who knew). Here’s what you get and it was actually $29…
