iPhone4 and Vera2 with Kwikset Lock Question

Hi,

I’m a noob and I just have some quick questions regarding the Vera2 and Kwikset Locks which I want to order but would like to know what the experts here have to say first. My questions are such.

  1. Using the iPhone App iVera, will I be able to view the status of my lock whether it be in the locked or unlocked position?

  2. Are there or will there ever be any monthly subscription fees that anyone has heard of? I have done some research and only saw that the schlage link system does and that is the reason i want to go with Vera.

  3. In the future if I want to add IP cameras to my Zwave home, what are the best (most affordable) cameras that have good integration with the Vera2 and the iPhone iVera App.

  4. Also, any other opinions or neat features that can be done with the iphone would be great, as that will be my main device that I will use to control my devices.

Yes, you will be able to view the status of the locks from the ivera app. As long as the locks are able to report to vera, the status of those locks will reflect that.

There are no subscription fees with using Vera. You have complete control of the unit and can either use MCV’s cp.mios.com for remote access or you can open the ports on your firewall and have direct access to your vera unit via web or using ivera. However If you plan on opening ports on your firewall, I would highly consider the security risks that are involve doing so.

There have been many post on this forum suggesting camera that work with vera. Many use Panasonic, Foscam, Smarteye and so forth. Vera will work with many ip based camera.

This depends on your needs and wants. There are many things that can be done with the iphone,ipod touch as well with android devices.
