Insteon Devices?

Hi all! Love my vera 3 and seen these at the store today and was just wondering if they can be added to the Vera3 network since it does support Insteon devices.

I picked up a mini remote that controls these devices but cannot seem to add them to vera, it simply does not see it or accept it’s ID.

Thanks!

Insteon does not share a frequency/protocol with Z-Wave. In order for Vera to communicate with Insteon devices, you would need to either plug in an Insteon adapter to your Vera or have Vera communicate via ethernet to an Insteon gateway.

Vesternet has a great Insteon vs. Z-Wave comparison.

I misunderstood, I thought the Vera3 box it’s self talked to z-wave, insteon and X10 wireless networks. I understand all three of these operate on their own protocols, I thought Vera3 understood them all.

Thanks! Mike.

Vera does understand Insteon (in limited support). However, you need to purchase a PLM in order for Vera to communicate with insteon devices. Vera does not include the hardware for insteon communication.

Hi @kc8pnd

It looks like the kit includes the Insteon hub, and as such - to quote @fba on this forum.

They have the PLM integrated in to them and don't directly expose the serial interface. Instead, they use a text based representation of the binary commands set over an HTTP GET.

Have a look at this thread, I assume the requirements of my UK Hub is the same.
