Initial views on Google TV (Revue)

Just fired it up on my Revue to see what it would look like. Photo attached. Probably needs some work on simplifying the overall region layout and, more importantly, on Keyboard focus & control for the Devices.

Still trying to work out how to get AutHomation to appear in the new [Home] bar, so that it’s quicker to get started when you’re watching TV.

So far though, it looks great!

Now, is that a 55" touch screen? ;D

When our friend’s kids come over, they seem to think so 8)

Thanks for the photo. It still needs some work. E.g. the keyboard controls have me stumped as I can not figure out how to gain focus inside the listview items (each device controls). I implemented the side bar navigation and need to figure out how to get rid of the top bar, but still retain the refresh button etc. I have not had a chance to work on the GoogleTV portion. Once I finish the alarm system integration and my revue gets updated to 3.1, I can start getting back to work on it.

Oh, just a tip, some keyboard controls:

S key: goes to the scene section
D key:goes to the device section
F key: goes to the favorites section
R key: refreshes the data

I just loaded this on my revue and it is terrific. I’m glad you will supporting the revue specifically and looking forward to future updates, but I am also enjoying it right now.

The only thing I can’t figure out is how to add devices to favorites. I must be doing something dumb!

I’ll probably have to go out and get a second revue before they are all gone.

To add a device to the favorites, since I do not have full keyboard controls, you’ll need to take the mouse and place it over a device you want to add to favorites and long press with the mouse button, a menu should appear. Let me know if you have trouble. I’ve only tested it on the emulator and not on the revue yet. I hope to have full support and changes will be done. For now think of it as a preview. There will be some bugs as well.

Hmmmm I am gonna have to by a revue now…damn you guessed for showing this off…LMAO.

My Christmas Wish List consists entirely of links to cool stuff posted on the boards here. :-X

Hehehe… If you can hold off, there are supposed to be new ones from other vendors. The newer stuff was supposed to be ARM-Based instead of INTEL-Based so they’ll run the NDK… of course, they probably won’t be as discounted as the current Logitech Revue and Sony models. Anyhow, supposed to be released @ or around CES, and I plan on going for one day next Jan (thanks to @strangely for the pointers)

To be fair, we really need to thank @garrettwp, since it’s really his work and energy that’s going into this thing to make it viable on the big-screen…

If anyone is interested in getting a review and not waiting around for the new devices… Best Buy has a revue + camera combo for $130 with free shipping.

The camera is terrific - 1080p and autofocus. I have a lot of family members with revues and cameras and it is a great video chat package.

That is a great deal. I may have to pick another one up. Sadly, I still have not received my update for revue. :frowning:

Running 2.0.3.0 on the Revue. Really neat stuff @garrettwp!

Sent from my treadmill.

Authomation looks great on the TV ! I haven’t got Google TV, use Windows Media Center PC’s / extenders would love to see a UI for that !

Sadly, WMC is dead so I don’t think you will see any new cool stuff for it. And IMO I don’t see any value in having an TV UI for home automation. These days everyone has touchscreens (phones, pads, etc) within arms reach so it actually takes less time/effort to use them - and yo can do it without disturbing what ever is happening on the TV.

How does this Google Tv plugin work? Does it require something to be installed on the Vera 3 or is it just using the mops Api’s?

Also I am in the market for a new tv. Are there other contenders that can control my Vera? What about Tv’s that have APIs where I can control them with the Vera?

This is not a plugin but an app that installed on the google tv. The app can be found in the play store for google tv. You than have control of your vera from your tv.

I just noticed this thread. I have a Logitech Revue with the latest firmware. I haven’t been able to update AutHomationHD through GooglePlay for quite a long time. An error message is displayed that says, “There was a problem during update. The application is not compatible with tv.” This kind of problem seems to be pretty common with Android.

I figured I would bring this up once more. I have a Revue (x86) running firmware 3.2 (the last) and I cannot see AutHomation in the Play Store. If I download it directly from the creator it installs and runs fine. I have tested version 1.4.1 on the review and it works. The same is also true for my Sony NSZ-GS7 (ARM) Google TV also running 3.2. My guess is that the manifest needs to be updated. Please consider doing this as its great to get updates via the Play store. If I can be of assistance testing or in any other way just let me know.

The manifest should be correct for google tv. I do not know why it is not showing up in the play store for the google tv. I can verify that it is not showing up on mine. Let me see what is going on and will update. The 1.4.1 release is a very old release and the latest version should be 2.0.3.1.
