infrared barrier

Hello,
Would be possible to use a simple it barrier to turn on stairway light just walking and breaking this barrier?
Can’t use PIR because it would light always my open stairway light.
Upstairs I’m using Figaro motion sensor, cause is not open space like downstairs so no problem when going downstairs. The problem is when I have to go upstairs.
Maybe can I buy simple 12v barrier Anne then use Figaro universal sensor?

Hope to have explained well on English, sorry not my language.
Thank you all,
Riccardo

Yes that should be possible. You could use the Fibaro Universal Sensor as long as the IR detector has a volt-free (dry) relay contact output - which is normal.

Thank you for answer, do you know some barrier ( easy just for this use… and cheap :P) i can buy?
Thanks again,
Riccardo

The last one I used came from a motorized gate supplier. I see some listed on eBay at various prices. There are also some listed as kits - which lowers the cost if you don’t mind soldering and putting it in a box.
