Yes, Garadget can be used with any garage door controlled with the button push.
Normally it is connected parallel to the wires from the wall button. In some exotic cases it can be hooked up to the contacts of the wireless remote instead.

Chamberlin’s my Q comes to mind where all the existing z-wave options don’t work right. I’m assuming you mean “exotic cases” like those which are all the newer doors.
Also “hooked up to the contacts of the wireless remote” You mean opening the remote and soldering the wires directly to the back of the board in the remote right? Most people that is more then they can do on their own.
Garadget works with most legacy garage openers (ones triggered with the regular wired button on the wall).
The homeowners with the latest garage door openers with coded/wireless inside triggers can choose to buy more expensive proprietary solution from the manufacturer or hook up Garadget to the contacts of existing remote to enjoy better integration options. I agree that this is more of a project but I don’t expect Chamberlin to open their protocol so we can use their module with Vera.
Just an update: Earlier this weekend the crowdfunding campaign for Garadget surpassed its funding goal with weeks to go.
The campaign’s stats show some backers coming from this forum. I’d like to thank you for your support.
I’ll submit a separate post about it but we’ll be looking for Lua coding expert for Vera-Garadget app. Reach out if you’re interested.
This sounds really cool, especially because my tilt sensor has been misfiring a lot lately, and telling me that the garage door is open when it is not. I think the use of laser to monitor garage door open status is brilliant.
Congrats on successfully commercializing this and shipping to clients.
Does this work well with a Veralite that is still running UI5? Does it work through the my garage door plugin? Imperihome android app?
Thanks!
There’s a simple open protocol and it should be trivial to create a Vera plugin. There are existing community contributed integration for other home automation hubs.
Vera plugin is still on todo list and I’ll restart my efforts to find a developer to work on it.
I just got my two Garadgets installed, desperately need the plug-in to complete the project. The setup wasnt as smooth as I would have hoped but the next day it worked out ok.
Both Android and iOS developers are busy handling the feedback from the early adopters to make the setup process a smoother experience.
I’ve posted the call for Vera plugin developers and contacted Vera people about it. We’ll get it.
