Indoor Cameras

I’m thinking of getting an indoor camera for my home. I’ve done a bit of research and struggled with the need to have the camera z-wave/Vera compatible vs. just having an app that can view/control the camera with no Vera integration. I can’t imagine a “scene” where I would include the camera vs. just being able to have the recording on my camera.

Currently, I have sensors on my exterior doors that will turn on lights and send me alerts if they are triggered when we are not home or if they are triggered after certain hours, so it is not like I would have the camera do something different based on that.

I’m currently looking at the camera below:

Thanks in advance!

First of all no cameras are z-wave. Your looking for an IP camera.

Cameras in VERA have never been a great combination for a number of reasons. Mostly vera is not powerful enough to stream multiple cameras and doesn’t have any built in storage for camera images or video and playback controls are non extant.

With that said I do use virtual motion sensor in VERA and have my camera recorder send motion detection to trip the virtual motions in vera. So I do have conditions based on this info but no load in vera.

As far as camera choices I have started with foscams and trashed them all and moved on to hikvisions and POE cameras. Wifi is never good for a camera to much constant traffic, and when I had Pan Tilt Mic and Speaker it never worked out as well as you might think. A good camera with maybe just a mic is much better then a cheap camera with 20 features that all work half a**. Running power high up the wall’s provided to be a challenge and cameras sitting on a table didn’t give me full room coverage. POE Cat wire gave me no mess not dealing with electrical outlets and hardwired cameras for best performance and no wifi issues. But I didn’t start out this way, I wasted my time and money at first.

How can you send a motion detection if the camera is not included in Vera?

Virtual motion plugin in vera… And the camera or dvr sends the command via http during triggering. I use blueiris and thats what sends http.

Just checked, you are right, with cheap camera here is no option for that i know i have a couple of them, but Vera Cam have that option.

Thanks
