I mainly have GE on off switches (some GE Dimmers) but in the list I don’t see GE on off (in wall device)
I see Revolv model #'s. Is this only as a reference and so when pairing I click on that (in wall revolv model XX ) or do I go under other Z wave. I actually don’t see a listing for the GE Model numbers. So I was curious where I start when adding the device… or does it not matter.
Also when I did add the device (GE in wall) on off I saw it on the page and can turn it on, but cannot turn off. In fact I had set up 3 in wall Ge switches ( 1 dimmer) but cannot turn off. I could actually dim the dimmer but cannot shut them off. It says something like transmission sent but nothing happens
Yes I have ui5 … i got them to work but thought the site was a little confusing.
Because when you want to add a device that’s “not listed” I just went to option " other z wave device and went from there.
There’s a list of devices but looks like they are for specific models i.e… for in wall on/off switch it says Revolv & model #

is this the wrong way to do it, technically speaking? Or does it matter. Or am I not being clear.

I’m not sure where your going to but your doing something more then you should. This should be all you need to do.
Go to devices, Add device, Add z-wave device, click option 1 and flick the light switch on off on, then click next.
Yes, remove then and then included them. To do that you disconnect your Vera, and use battery power. Bring the Vera to the switch, put the vera in remove mode, and cycle the switch. Put the vera in include mode and repeat. No need to pick the device as this is done for you.

Don’t disconnect vera and use battery power unless your device is to far away and it doesn’t show up with the high power inclusion in step one first. It’s more work then needed unless your just just really far away and it can’t find the device.
I guess experience is on your side, but they do indicate a few feet distance at time of inclusion. I never really felt it was a big deal with my vera lite

The device doesn’t need to really be 3 feet (Some special devices like battery powered door locks or other special devices) might have a problem with longer range inclusions. But in a normal sized house and after you have a few devices even this wont be a problem either.
I have more then one house with over 70 devices in the bigger house. Maybe not at first but now I can add a switch to the rear detached garage over 100ft away and use option 1 (3 feet) and get a switch to add without moving the vera or powering it down.
Bottom line is try the easy way first. Worst that happens the device doesn’t show up or is not scene when you are toggling it on and off. But for me adding this way is the easiest. I normally take my laptop or phone on wifi. Walk to the switch put vera into inclusion as i described earlier, flip the switch and watch it add on the laptop, name it and give it a room, then move to the next switch.
If I do it battery, it will work but I need to power down vera and put batteries in it. (I don’t leave them in for fear of batteries going bad down the road and leaking and because I don’t use it on battery power ever) getting it to add can only be seen by flashing lights and for a newbee can be tricky to know what a fast blink, slow blink is and when its really been added. In the he full inclusion you see everything poping up on the screen with the device type and name and such so you know its there.
I just suggest trying it the easy way before jumping into what I consider a more difficult and unnecessary approach in 90% of the cases.
