I'd like to write my first AP

I’m a computer programmer using Java, Javascript, Perl, SQL, XML, DHTML, Ajax, etc. I have a Masters in CS, so my programming skills are pretty good, but my zwave skills and knowledge is novice :-\

I’d like to do my first vera ap, preferably starting from some existing AP, on a simple device. I’d love to hear suggestions on websites, projects. development tools. etc
