Huge, costly problem. Help!

Hey folks!

I’m having a serious problem with a veralite that I’ve recently installed for a customer.
This house has so far about 50 or so devices included. But, the vera just randomly stopped including devices. I’ve been working on it for weeks, and it WILL not find any devices when trying to include or exclude.

The devices that I originally included still work fine, but I tried to install some scene controllers for the customer and while most of them work, I started noticing some weird things.

For example, one scene controller is working perfectly, but it’s missing from the Vera’s GUI. It’s not a big deal because I see no reason to need to modify it, but should I ever need to I wont be able to.

My main concern is that I have a couple bedrooms and a washroom with scene controllers (the builder located all the switches remotely in a closet…don’t even get me started on that) so, without a scene controller working in those locations, have no lights at ALL!

At this point cost is not a factor. I just need to get about 3 more scene controllers added, but as I said, I cannot get the unit to include or exclude. I’ve tried doing so on the vera battery, as well as through the GUI.

Specifically, when I try to add a device I see the counter counting down, but I don’t see the little blue transparent bar at the top that says to include a device, like I used to.

Does anyone have any suggestions? It’s a little tricky to troubleshoot because I have to drive to site to do so, and we have no internet connectivity at this house at the moment.

Hopefully someone here as a simple solution to getting the inclusion process working again. I’ve tried about 15 different devices! When I try to include with my homeseer running on my laptop, the devices include fine.

I’d really like to do away with vera equipment altogether (and it looks like we may have to), however the home automation system this home has (RTI Corp.) has official vera plugins that we’d like to utilize if possible.

Thanks again!

Call support.

Backup, reset, restore.

I had the same occur recently and backup, factory reset and restore did not resolve the issue. Therefore, call support

Veralite supports up to 70 devices? Are you sure it’s not reaching it’s limits?

Sounds like you are hitting the limits of the Vera Lite (memory). I have seen the same behavior on my Vera Lite (then switched to a Vera3 and recentcly VeraPlus). If you are still in UI5 I would recommend getting a Vera3 on eBay. Migrating is easy.

Thanks for the advice folks.

I actually have 2 veralites, and a veraplus. I did go the controller shift option and switched it all over to the veraplus, and it does seem to add devices now.
However, the process of excluding on the vera and reincluding is going to take hours. Does anyone know if there is a way to put the veraplus into exlude mode without having to run through the 60 second include mode first?

I decided to bite the bullet and pick up an ISY994 for this site. I haven’t had a chance to test the ISY yet, but I hope it performs closer to the homeseer systems I’ve used and less like the vera!

I’ve gone through a lot of different vera devices, and I somewhat feel they just aren’t ready to be deployed on a larger scale yet. Especially if you need something that’s going to be rock solid and reliable.

I’m still going to play around with the vera that doesn’t want to go into exclude mode and see what I can come up with. Thanks guys!

Go into the device, click
Delete and then exclude

I have been using a Vera Edge for 9 months and in my experience these sort of problems are not unusual. I have only 11 devices in my system and all of them took multiple attempts before they would pair with the controller. Sometimes the controller puts up the ‘Include/Exclude a device’ banner and sometimes it doesn’t (no idea why). Forgive me for sounding negative but I wouldn’t bet my business reputation on one of these devices.
