HSM100 help

I have been trying to for two days to get it running but still no luck. I have device options set as Parameter #1 at 10 due to pets #2 On Time at 600 #3 at 255 #4 at 50% #6 at 0 and #6 at 255. are these not correct. I just want it to pick up on motion and turn a light on.

Variable #2 does not look correct. I think 255 is the limit?
And you have 2 variable #6’s?

I have one unit with only variable #2 set. 1 byte dec and 5 mins on time. All the others are set to monitor.
Start with getting one variable working before adding others.

JOD.

Sorry #5 is 0 and # 6 is 255. #2 is at 1 just to test but I will change to 5 once up and running. Got the arm/bypass working but still not turning on the lights

Are you using direct Z-Wave associations or events?

I have a scene where any motion activates the lights to come on

Double check the scene setup.
Armed sensor or tripped sensor as the trigger?
If armed make sure the device is armed when testing.

JOD.

Are you using long user-defined names (more than about 20-30 characters)?

I’m asking because of the bug documented at http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php?topic=4993.msg27703#msg27703

I have had no luck setting Parameter #1 (sensitivity) with UI4. I get an error every time on both of my HSM100’s, once you get the error non of the parameters are loaded. Try setting the other parameters except #1 and see if it accepts them. I had a ticket in for this problem for some time now.

went into device options and added a group association ang got the lights to come on and off but now the sensor is active even when switched to bypass and not responding to the correct parameters

Group associations are part of the Z-Wave specification, whereas Arm/Bypass is just a variable in Vera’s operating system. In other words: You cannot ‘Vera-bypass’ a Z-Wave group association. You would have to change the Z-Wave parameters of your device, either manually via GUI or via Luup (http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Luup_Scenes_Events#Set_Z-Wave_parameters).

started over and left all settings at default except time on which i put a 5 and light threshhold at 50 and nothing would happen. made a group association and the light come on with motion and turn off after the 5 minutes but the motion sensor stays on continous even when switched to bypass. no way to turn it off, i must be missing something?

Remove and reinsert the batteries. As a last resort exlude and re-include the device. The HSM100 may take some time to get fully operational.

Arm/bypass doesn’t do anything to the motion sensor. They are just flags you can set in Vera to help control scenes.

You can control devices directly using the parameters and association with the sensor, and Vera isn’t involved in the interactions.

If you want Vera to control your devices, you’d set up scenes that determine what times the sensor’s signals would be used to trigger actions.

There are many threads in the board about how to set up the 3-in-1.

If the motion sensor stays on (red LED stays on) it sounds like you have set it up as a relay node. This setting is used when the device is powered by an external power supply. See parameter 5 for more details. Note the special instruction on how to reset the 3 in 1 back to non relay mode.

So if I understand correctly the motion detector runs continiously and there is no way to have it inactive arm/bypass does nothing but when you set up a scene you can have it avtive during certain times of the day (by the timer)

That’s correct. If you let Vera control the scenes you have much more control like arm at sundown, disarm at sunrise. I let the light sensor in the 3 in 1 control when my Vera arms/disarms. I very seldom use direct associations. Set the parameters to suite your needs but let Vera control the associations. Once setup these devices work very well.

I have read you can add an event so any motion triggers the event to turn on the lights. Sounds easy but all i have been able to do is run down the batteries. I just want to be able to leave the house turn on the event and have the lights come on with any movement, any help with what the settings shouls be?

A good set of batteries should last at least 4 - 6 month with heavy use unless you have it setup as a relay node then you will only get a week or two of use before the batteries are dead. Did you reset parameter 5?

As a test reset parameter 5 back to 0 as per the included instructions, exclude the 3in1 then re-include.
Set parameter #2 to 2 minutes.
I like to set the “Wakeup interval (seconds):” to 360 to refresh all sensor reading as often as possible.
Set a scene to trigger a light for 2 minutes on motion when armed. Arm the sensor.
Cover the 3in1 with something so it can not detect any motion, wait at least 2 minutes.
Trigger the sensor, the light should go on for 2 minutes then turn off.

Sometimes I have found that after including the 3in1 the device takes many hours before sensor results start showing up in the GUI. I recommend starting your testing once you get these results.

removed then installed the sensor, set variable #2 to 2 then made a scene with a command to turn on a lamp and leave it on for 2 minutes then go to previous setting another command for the motion detector to arm and leave it, covered the motion detector and saved waited two minutes uncovered and nothing happened. went back to the scene and added an event for the motion detector with an armed sensor is tripped as the trigger, set tripped to yes and saved and again nothing happened

Did the red LED flash when you uncovered the 3in1?
Are the temp and lights values showing up in the user interface (GUI)?
Are you sure you have a good set of batteries in it?
When you armed the motion detector did the GUI show armed?
When you excluded the 3in1 did the red LED start to flash (indicating that is is not paired).
When you excluded the device did you let Vera boot up and reload the devices before you included it again?
