HRDS1 delay

Greetings,

I’ve recently added a HRDS1 from Hawking to my network to monitor an inside basement door. After reading the manual and scouring the forums for information I feel pretty confident that I understand how this device is supposed to function, but I am still having an issue with it and the vera. When the door opens or closes, I am eventually notified about the state change, but there is consistently a delay of 30-45 minutes(!) before any action is taken.

I have a scene setup to turn on a light (near the door) and alert me via email when the door is closed (this door needs to stay open for the dog). When I walk up and close the door noting happens… but ~45 minutes later the light comes right on and sure enough I get the email.

I’ve tried tailing the logs in /var/log/cmh/ and it appears as though the delay is with the HRDS1, rather than Vera as I do not see any action to/from it’s node ID when I open or close the door, but I could be missing something here.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Hey Fall-Line:

I’ve tried this device with VERA and had very little luck with it. Worked only intermittently for a couple of months, would take the batteries out and work again and then nothing. I have removed from system and am looking for another option. I have found with several other devices that if it not on MCV’s supported hardware list, I have wasted my money.

Thanks for your reply gatorbaw.

I believe the community as a whole have had good luck with this device (also known as the Everspring SM103) and vera. I’ve had these recommended to me by others on the forums for various uses.

I’ll let you know if I get it sorted out, hopefully you can dust off yours at some point in the future.

Cheers

@fall-line I have one thats working fine on my garage door, and I get an SMS alerts/emails normally within 10 seconds!

I know others have reported initial setup issues but after a few attempts have gotten it working.

How far is it from either your Vera or a neighbor node? Also did you include it in the location where it is now? I’m thinking that maybe you don’t have a good signal with it?!

I also use a couple of those, both work almost flawlessly.
Once or twice I had one unit to stack in ‘open’ state, but simply re-opening and closing the door was enough to set it back on track

Initially though I did have a problem with the first installation on the garage door. It was working one time out of five, and I eventually discovered that it was caused by a specific location. I suppose a metal stud or something might reduce the antenna power, so signal simply didn’t reach Vera. I moved it 3cm left and everything was OK since then

Thanks for the info guys.

I suspected a signal/routing issue as well, despite the sensor only being about 25 feet from the Vera (and only 3-5 feet from two other nodes that have no issues), but have (I believe) ruled this out but “healing” the network a few times. Just to be certain I also took sensor off of the door and moved it to within 5 feet of the vera, re healed the network, let it sit overnight, and then re-tried my test. Doing this yielded the same result, when moved the magnet to trigger the sensor nothing happened… until about 40 minutes later.

I suppose it’s possible I just got a dud of a unit, but it does seem odd to me that the delay is consistent. It’s not like it sometimes works immediately, and sometimes has a delay of varying degree… it’s always about the same amount of time. Almost as if it was acting on a setting of some sort.

Oh well. I’ll keep messing with it.

Thanks again.

I think I found my issue here. For some reason, my HRDS1’s vera config had “Automatically configure” set to NO for some reason. As soon as I changed that setting, woke it up (by closing the door) and then hit “configure node right now”, it started responding almost immediately.

Closing the door turns on the light within about 2 seconds, and I get an SMS in the next minute.

shurg sorry to bother you, thanks for the helpful replies!

This is good to know… I have had an HRDS1 (wired to an external sensor) on my garage door for months and it has worked quite well.

On the other hand - these do work quiet well, but once in a while they fail in this or other way - but similar wireless contact sensors in security systems somehow work without fail for years… sigh…
