New VeraLite owner here. One frequent problem in our house is that, while people do turn the TV off when they’re done with it, they often forget to turn off the Playstation 3 (which we use as our media center; it’s always on when the TV is in use).
I have an Aeon Labs Smart Energy Switch, which I could insert between the wall and the power strip that both the TV and the PS3 use. This would give me a way to turn them both off at once, or when we go to bed, etc.
But then when we want to use them again, we’d have to (1) turn on the smart switch, (2) turn on the TV, and (3) turn on the PS3. (Neither the PS3 nor the TV have hard power switches that I can just leave on.) Having an extra step (especially one as slow as that seems to be so far) in the process is going to make the WAF very low.
Is there any way to automatically turn on the PS3 and/or TV from the VeraLite, so I could perhaps set up a scene that turns all three on at once?
Unless your TV and PS3 can be controlled via eg HTTP commands, it won’t be easy to have Vera control them. A possible solution would be like an IR blaster type device that Vera can control to send IR commands to both devices.
Vera can control my Yamaha HTR which is connected to my TV via HDMI so I can use the HDMI CUC(sp?) to have the HTR switch on/off the TV via that when it gets switched on or off by Vera. If the PS3 is connected via HDMI you may want to look into that HDMI CUC feature to see if it supports switching a connected HDMI device on or off.
I am using the Harmony app to have the vera command the entire home theatre through the harmony hub. It can basically flip a single switch to turn on preset mode on the Harmony.
