How to pair Evolve LRM-AS dimmer with Vera 3?

Has anyone used the Evolve LRM-AS with Vera 3? I can’t pair them.

I had not problem adding the Leviton VRCS4-M0Z and the Intermec CA600.

The instructions below did not work for me (tapping on once or twice after powering it up):

Via Network Wide Inclusion (NWI): Tap the switch once. This can be done upon power-up of the
node to be included, or once the controller is prepared to add all nodes to the network.
Via Classic Inclusion: Tap the switch twice.

Bill

Did you try to exclude the device first before inclusion?

I am using multiple Evolve products with my Vera Lite.
Never had any issues, try excluding the switch first as Garrett suggested. Also, for pairing, make sure the device is turned off first then try a single or very quick double tab.

It is not compatible!
I just spent hours trying to with no success vera 2.
But my mac with indigo (Z-Wave) works with it no problem, I thought I had a bad module.
So I wonder id micasaverde will fix this?

No luck from me pairing. Can it be done without anything more than the unit and a Vera 2? How do you first exclude the unit?

Found the exclude process which solved the problem. Thanks!

Yeah that worked for me too. What a pain!

I can not find details on the Exclusion Process. Any help is appreciated

I’m a complete newbie to the vera world. I just got my vera edge and 5 evolve lrm-as dimmers. danged if I can get them to pair. Thought it might be a distance thing as my closest dimmer was 20 feet away so I wired one up to an extension cord and brought it within 3 feet of the controller. Still nothing when I try to include it.

Here are the steps I have repeated:

First Add device as dimmer I use the Evolve LRM-15 setup. Hit next to get to the pairing screen and tap the top part of the switch. Wait 60 seconds and nothing. Exclude it by tapping the bottom part of the switch and then holding it down. Then try to pair again. Stil nothing.

Try adding it as a generic zwave device. My instructions in the leaflet included with the switch say to power switch on and tap twice. try this and nothing go to exclude and nothing. Rinse repeat.

What am I doing wrong?

Any help would be appreciated.

Your proceedure is correct.

You do need to double-click the the paddle on the Evolve switch to exclude/include. It’s two rapid clicks, slow clicks might not work and there is no hold down before/after the clicks. You should see a response on the screen immediately. The instructions to power teh switch on are meaning to apply power to the switch(plug it in or turn on teh bereaker).

Well, not gonna lie, I’m a little disappointed. I have tried everything and I don’t seem to be getting anywhere. I get the distinct feeling that the zwave radio on the vera edge isn’t working but I don’t have any other zwave devices to try pairing. I have to go to the US (I live in Canada) next week and I will pick up a First Alert ZCOMBO since it seems these work with UI7 and they are relatively inexpensive.

Thought I would be living in the house of Tomorrowland by now.

Perhaps its my Vera Edge. I just bought a Leviton Appliance module and that won’t pair either. I was hoping to have an “ahah” moment but that didn’t happen. Time to return the Vera Edge?

SUCCESS!!! Then failure. I have managed to pair all of my Evolve dimmer switches. The steps I took:

  • Remove Ethernet cable.
  • Unplug Vera Edge
  • Plug in Vera Edge close to switches
  • Log onto Vera Edge Web Interface with Smart Phone. (Join mios wifi group and point browser to 192.168.81.1)
  • add devices. I just added them as Evolve LRM-15 dimmers from the list but you could choose generic device as well. I did it both ways and had the same result.
  • Place Vera Edge within inches of switch and pair. LRM-AS require a double tap anywhere on the paddle up or down to pair and unpair).
  • Do this for all switches.
  • Test switches by turning them on and off.

SUCCESS!!!

Then the failure.

If I move the Vera Edge more than 12 inches away from any switch they all stop working. I have two switches in a gang box in the living room and a standalone 10 feet away in the kitchen. As long as the Vera Edge is within 6 inches of any of these switches they will all work otherwise none of them will. The natural placement for my Vera Edge is by my router that is 12 feet away from the double gang dimmers with unobstructed line of sight.

Is there anything I can do to get more range out of my Vera Edge controller? Is this a flaw with this controller? Is my Vera Edge perhaps not working properly and I should return it for a replacement?

If Vera cannot be more than 12 inches away from the device, I would recommend exchanging your obviously flawed Vera Edge for another.

Be aware that somethings interfere with Z-Wave signals. Metal gang boxes will shield the Z-Wave device and its range will be severely impacted. Also other devices that operate in the 908MHz range(U.S.) can have a major impact. Baby monitors are a common source of this issue. In some cases these environmental factors can reduce Z-Wave RF range to only a few feet. But, only 12 inches is much more likely to be a bad Vera and environmental interference.

I agree with your prognosis. I have requested an exchange for my Vera Edge. I considered the environmental interference but I excluded that by removing all the switches from the plastic gang boxes. I knew it wouldn’t help but I had to try. Hate returning things.

Thing is the switches have no problem meshing up and communicating amongst themselves so interference is unlikely. Plus I relocated my VeraEdge to a variety of locations but my range was always limited.

Did you get these Evolve switches to work with the Edge?? I am lost as well
