How To - Log data to an external CIFS share (e.g. NAS) - No more USB

Sorry to post on an older thread but I’m hoping that someone can assist.

I’ve had my VeraLites for several years and just now decided to add some logging to them. Here’s where I’m at.

My Lite is on UI7 running 1.7.855
My DataMine 2 is at 1.914

My Lite is connected to another device via USB and I have a 16tb NAS on my desk. So I’d love to just point my DataMine over to it. That’s when I ran across this thread and started reading up.

I followed the steps at the beginning of this guide and everything worked fine.

If I manually mount my NAS with this command: mount -t cifs -o user=,pass=,nounix, noserverino //192.168.2.5/veradatamine /nas

I can see everything in the directory. So I know functionally everything is working. I also know that on a reboot this mount will drop.

So of course I went in to my DataMine device and under advanced/variables I setup all the options I needed to. Reading this thread some users, I guess, are on UI5 or older UI7 so the options are not all there but then some are.

Here are my questions.

So does this guide still apply to the firmwares I’m running on a Lite?
Do I have my options set correctly under my Variables tab?

If both of those are yes then there is something else causing my problem. As after rebooting my Vera the mount never occurs.

root@MiOS_35001409:/nas# df

/dev/mtdblock8 6144 6144 0 100% /mios

I?m not sure if the error in mounting is from DataMine bing ?uninitialised? for some reason or it?s not initialing because the mount is failing.

Here is the log:

Ok. So I noticed that my mountlocation and mounttype variables are blank. I keep entering values into them but they keep disappearing. I’m assuming now that the reason the mount isn’t working is because my Vera won’t maintain these settings. ??? ???

Hi

I?m just curious - is anyone successfully mounting a CiFS share (e.g an external NAS share) upon start up under UI7 ?

Yes

Hi @sender

I?m looking to attempt it on my VeraPlus for the first time (have used it for years on UI5) but saw that people had many issues under UI7.

Please could you confirm the steps, install packages etc you followed to enable CIFS support, and also the script you have in your vera Start Up to connect and mount each time.

Sorry dont know what I did exactly anymore. But if you follow the big thread on this forum from begin to end I remember getting it to work.

Hi,

For those of you subscribed to this thread or come across it,
I’ve posted instructions on how to mount a cifs share easily from within veras web ui here. Thanks to everyone in this sub forum in particular

Hope it helps,

Sam

Hello there,

thank you for your tutorial!

It worked great for me, I mounted a folder of my Diskstation to my vera under /dataMine, and this folder appears under df -h.

I reinstalled datamine because I wanted a fresh start from the beginning. But since there, I have big problems using Datamine. I set the manualmount to 1, the rest of the configuration is standard.

It seems like the configuration does fail, and therefore there is no webpage for the configuration. I already manually deleted the datamine2…file under /www/dm/. to force a reload, without any help.

Does anybody have a clue? Thank you in advance!

Hi,

I have migrated data storage for datamine from USB to CIFS. All good except one small stupid issue.

Datamine shows still the old values of Disk Space (USB drive) in WWW.

All 3 parameters are old and not updated with new CIFS drive.

Should it be updated automatically, especially the “Used” value ?

Under “df -k” it shows correct information.

If not, how to trigger the plugin to update new values?

It is not a big deal but anyway I am interested in knowing how to change it

Thanks!
