When I fired up Vera and set the location, Vera did set up the time and date correctly.
Then suddenly the unit was set back to Azerbadjan and acted slow. So I restarted it (pluggin out the cord). Now the time and date is again back to Thursay 1 Jan of 1970, and time started from 1.00 (as I suppose it would after restart).
I had to reset the timezone etc. Europe/Stockholm. Now it refuse to update/set the right time.
I’ve waited more than 12 hours, and still it’s the same.
How can I get Vera to update time and date to correct values?
How can i check that Vera really has Internet connection? Because that was a bit tricky when I first started it up, so time-issue can be because of the lack of Internet (which else work for all the computers).
I found how to check Internet connection, it works but I had one test to fail: ts2.mios.com TUNNEL CONN:FAIL
and etho says ip-adress is 192.168.81.1, but eth0:0 is the correct 192.168.1.10.
Still it does not update time, and that still is my original problem. How do I solve it?
=== IP Configuration ===
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
inet addr:192.168.81.1 Bcast:192.168.81.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
eth0:0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
inet addr:192.168.1.10 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
qunaki, if Vera did not have Internet connectivity, it would tell you. Your diagnostics look correct to me. 192.168.81.x is expected and doesn’t indicate a problem.
It is possible that the date-sync port has been (recently) closed on your Internet connection. The timing is suspicious but I’ve seen it before. The customary fix is to install ntpdate. Search the forum for those words and you will see past discussions and how to do it. If you don’t feel up to it then raise a support ticket with MiCasaVerde. The forum is not a support channel so you will only be talking to users here.
Thanks for your fast reply. And yes i know this is a user forum, but thousands of brains is usually better than one and a much faster one for replies.
I seached the forum for nptdate and only came up with one post really adressing the problem and that’s for Vera2. I have VeraLite (which is like Vera 3) and don’t know the difference and if that was an old solution.

Some say nptdate is old, and only start once. The continous update should be best since much in home automation actually fires by time and timers, havin time issues with home automation should be a no no.
It’s actually You tahat are the only one to adress the above problem, have link to three different npt-programs that should be better, e.g. ntpclient.
But I don’t have any linux machine and can’t compile any of them. Next thing is that I’m so new to Vera I don’t know how to install such thing (but that is probably the least problem), where to add the lines calling the code etc.
When there is no guide and your new to it, then theres little you can do. I guess I’ll have to adress this problem to Micasa. But then yet again, I’m so new to it I even dont how to (but that can be solved by reading…), worst thing is I don’t know how fast they are to reply.
Since there is only one thread about it, it seems like a little problem for most users, but right now it’s huge for my part. Nothing will work if I don’t have the right time. My early realtion to Vera hasn’t been the best, but hopefully we’ll come along.
Sorry, I meant install ntpclient. There are 13 matches for that phrase and this is the one you want.
There is no need to compile anything.
Like I said, if you don’t feel up to the job, you will need to raise a support ticket. They may even discover that it’s a different problem, not related to NTP at all.
futzle you’re an angel, it worked like a charm.
Even it took a while to work out how to and where to get password etc. and then just add the three rows. It wasn’t superclear that the rows actually themself would download and install the ntpclient. But it worked from first try.
The little I’ve read about and understod rdate, then ntpclient should have been added first day from the company.
Thanks futzle. Now Vera and I are glad again, leaving the 70ties

Just updated my vera lite with the ntp client and finally i am out of 1970 aswell…
;D
Saw the post from futzle directed to micasaverde about this problem, and I agree that they should come with a proper fix for this problem.
A correct date and time is essential for making scenes, and to install the ntp client through ssh is far from easy, especially when the root password is not on the back of the device…
I’m glad for his behalf it could help some one else. Before I had it fixed i started a ticket to Micasa, when they locked in to it they saw it was now correct, closing the ticket.
But they also replied: "We are aware there are some users that encounter this issue and it is mostly because the port 37 that is used by the Vera unit to synchronize the time with the time servers is blocked. This can be solved by adding a fix (NTP Client). "
But I don’t think port 37 is blocked here, there must be something else. But this fix is no matter what, much better than anything else. Time must be right - period.
But I don't think port 37 is blocked here, there must be something else.
It’s tough to say. ISPs do block outgoing connections to some ports (25 is a common one, to catch SMTP). Hardly anyone has heard of rdate so if you are with an ISP that whitelists port numbers of popular services then they might not even know to enable rdate. Or it could be that the list of rdate servers that Vera connects to is unreachable, or turned off, or is throttling traffic. I think it’s fair to say that rdate just isn’t reliable in the real world, for whatever reasons.
Sorry, but glad you stated that, I’ve just as stupid as anyone in tech-stuff asuming everyone as a male - forever sorry.
I’ll never forget that you saved me (and others). Your’e the official “Queen” of this forum, according to me, and Vera is the jackal but you can tame.
