How to control outside lights with a motion dectector

I’d like to get my outside lights to be controlled by a motion detector through Vera much the same way it’s done now using a Heath/Zenith Multi-Bright motion detector. The way it works is as follows.

  1. At dusk the lights come on to a preset dimmed level.
  2. If motion is detected the lights go to full and stay that way until a programmed amount of time after motion has stopped. At that point the lights return to the previous level (either dimmed or off).
  3. After a programmed amount of time after dusk the lights will go completely out until motion is detected then step 2 will be preformed.
  4. During the day is the lights are turned on they should turn off after a preset amount of time regardless of motion.

So can this be programmed with Vera?

Yes but it will take some scripting in the luup tab as its too complex for the basic scene controls.

I have HSM-100 installed inside the house.

Since it is a 3-in-1 i have programmed the Temp scene with thermostat.
configured for motion scene with lights inside the house.with luup code for night time only.
light sensor with lights to turn on the lights only during the nighttime with some simple luup code.

For the outside porch lights at the main door (i have only one as of now, i use a CFL) i have a sunset and sunrise scene to turn ON and turn OFF. additionally i have a motion sensor light over the garage door which works independently and turns on with motion.

I have no problem with that but is there a good write up on writing luup scripts?

Thanks
