How to configure a static IP on verlite controller

Hi,

I have configured the vera with DHCP, its working fine but off late i was trying to install vera at my office where we use statis IP’s and vera did not function, as it could not get an IP address.

Please help me understand the steps to configure the ver for static IP.

If you go to Settings - Net & Wifi, you can enter your static IP address there. Select Manually Configure (advanced) and then under Internet/WAN (not LAN!) choose Static IP and enter your address, mask, etc. Don’t change the LAN address, as it doesn’t seem to like that if I remember correctly. See attached image for my settings.

Hi,
When I select ‘manually configure’, nothing comes up. tried clicking save and apply, reboot, no luck. Any ideas?

What version of firmware are you running on Vera? Also, what browser are you using?

Tried using chrome 36.0.1985.143 m, internet explorer 11 and firefox.

This is a known problem with version 1.6.xxx. The recommended solution is to set your router’s DHCP to issue a fixed IP address to your Vera’s MAC.

It is fixed in version 1.7.318 but I would not recommend updating just yet as not many plugins are working.

MCV recommend Firefox. Many of us use Chrome with no issues. IE does not work reliably.

I think the easiest way to do this is the set a DHCP reservation in your router so that it will always assign the same IP to your Vera. I do this for most of my computers and devices so I can rely on their IP addresses not changing. :wink:

Thank you for the help. I have set up a reserved ip address in the router. I will see over the next few days whether it has worked.

I set a static ip in my router to the veralite MAC address. I’m curious if that actually worked though as I can’t update the device manifest in roomie remote ( shows 0) and the ip in the header in safari still shows the old address when I’m in Vera interface. Firmware version 1.6.641

Although reserving an address in the router is not a totally satisfactory solution, it does appear to work. If your manifest update shows 0, it would appear the veralite address has not changed. ie if you entered the current address when reserving. I use a network scanner to verify addresses. ‘Fing’ on Ipad and 'advanced ip scanner’on pc, can’t remember which on mac, off at the moment.

Vera will not get the new reserved IP address until either the current DHCP lease expires (often 24 hours) or you reboot it.

This get curiouser and curiouser. It’s been over 24 hours, and the veralite still doesn’t show up on the network when I scan it. Everything seems to be working though, except the TCP lights. I don’t think the TCP Connect can find veralite, or vice versa. I was able to update the roomier emote using the WAN Ip address, but the TCP plug-in can’t seem to find it. I’ll keep working on it, but I’m stumped for the moment. Here’s a screen shot of the settings, maybe its something obvious.

The address reservation in your router will only work if Vera is set to use DHCP. The current Static setting would normally override the router. Are both IP settings the same?

I reset it to DHCP, but still no luck. The IP addresses are different, so maybe that’s the issue. The error message from the TCP plugin says host not found, so my guess is it’s looking at the wan address not the LAN address. Not sure how to make them the same as it won’t allow me to make the change manually.

Which port on the Vera3 are you connecting to your network? It is normal to use the WAN port. In this case the TCP should be trying to connect to the IP address of Vera’s WAN port.
