How to change dimmer behavior?

I have several Leviton Vizia RF+ dimmers in my house, and I don’t like the default behavior. Specifically, if I have the light dimmed very low (say, 10% or 25%), and I press the switch, I want the light to turn on to 100% brightness. However, the current behavior of the switch is that it turns the light off, so I have to press the switch a second time to turn it back on. But when it turns back on, it doesn’t go to 100% brightness; instead, it returns to the previous dim level, and I have to manually hold down the brighten button for a few seconds to get the light where I actually want it. This has become quite frustrating, and is hurting the WAF of these switches.

What I want is for anything below 50% to be considered “off” (so pressing the switch turns it on to full brightness), and anything over 50% should be considered “on” (so pressing the switch turns it off). This seems like it would be an easy thing to change, but how? AFAIK, this logic is controlled by the light switch itself, not the Vera, so I can’t just create a scene to make it work the way I want it. Is there any way to reprogram the light switch itself? Or is there another way that I haven’t thought of?

MCV have said that they worked out a deal with Levitron to get information about the settings available in the Vizia RF+ devices, so this may be something that Vera can configure in the future. I believe they say would be a couple months before it was implemented though.

Wont help you now but for the future- you probably want to look at all the differnt brands availible. They all behave differently and have different features and settings. Hopefully you aren’t too far into outfitting your home.

there’s a good start of a table listing the differences of SOME brands here:

http://store.homeseer.com/store/HomeSeer-Z-Wave-Dimming-Wall-Switch-Matrix-W16C64.aspx

it doesn’t include GE (which seem to be rebranded ACT with a subset of the features). And I’m not sure what other brands are out there that also might be missing.

  1. Not sure if already know this, but you can turn the lights ON to 100% level from its OFF state, if you hold the pad for 2 seconds - it will go to 100% and not the previously set level. But it has to be OFF first for this to work.

  2. Still, the behavior of a single short press of the pad can be modified at the switch - whether it goes to previously set level or goes all the way to 100% (or any other specified level). Check the manual for the dimmer. Attached is the specific section for the old Vizia-RF, see Mode-2, Set Dim-Lock. New Vizia-RF+ should have something similar, but I believe it allows altering even more things.

  3. Unfortunately, the other part of your requirement cannot be done, as you cannot program the switch to treat anything lower than 50% as OFF state and go to 100% with a single press of the pad…
