I’m finding that my MCV 2 will start to give me false info in both the browser and my iPhone apps. It will show lights off when they are on (or the other way as well) more often than not but it also gives me bad info on my thermostats which is a bit of a problem.
If I simply restart Vera, it seems to fix the problem but it’s getting to the point I need to do it every other week or so. I’m using UI3 (impatiently waiting on UI 4) and my set up is only a few months old now.
I haven’t had any specific need to restart Vera once I had my network up and running. It must have been a few weeks at least since the last time, and all information in the control panel is accurate. I’m also on Vera 2 using UI3.
I have a Vera2 Running UI4 and it’s plugged into a timer which turns Vera off at 03:01 & back on at 03:05 daily.
Currently, this isn’t out of necessity, I do it just in case she hangs when I’m not home. This guarantees that she’s hard rebooted at least once a day. (Somehow that just sounds wrong ) :
I have Vera2 with UI 3 and have only reset it once since April and that was after a storm … my status is always right on the money. 6 switch/dimmers, Hsm100, 4 recept, 4 Trane stats.

Made me laugh…your home automation plugged into a timer ;D It’s actually a great idea, but still funny.

I’ve been running tests with the beta releases of UI4 for MCV, so this is my way of being safe rather than sorry. The reality is, now that I’ve been doing this for a few weeks, I’d forgotten that it was even rebooting in the early hours, it’s completely unobtrusive and iIt’s a fail-safe way to make sure I don’t have a hang while I’m away… I just may leave it this way. 8)
I also have my Vera 1 (on UI2) plugged into a timer that shuts it down for 1 minute every Tuesday at 3am. Up until the sytem froze for the first time about 2 months ago (thanks to a dongle lockup), there was never an issue. But this Vera is in my weekend home, and having the thing lockup with no way to recover until I was actually next at the house several weeks later was frustrating, especially since Vera manages security lighting when I’m away. Hence the installation of the high-tech remote rebooting device.

I’ve played with the “auto rebooting device” and it provides an extra level comfort, because we all know Vera will be fine until you leave on a 10 day vacation to Europe and then blammo, Murphy’s Law. MCV is working hard to make it so we never have to do this, so I’d suggest submitting a ticket and they might have you turn on Verbose logging before it happens again so they can potentially track the problem. It seems there a lot of users that don’t have to restart Vera. I don’t think the timer hurts anything and like I said it makes you feel good.
I have Vera I and it has been in operation since the first of the year. I have never had to restart/reboot/repower since it was put on line. I have it on a small battery back up along with the my linksys router and etherrain.
