How "mature" does the Z wave network have to be?

Here is a question for those who have very “mature” Z wave networks, those that have many switches, plugs, etc so that the entire house is blanketed by signal repeaters. Do you guys still have occasional problems with Kwikset locks not always displaying their correct status where you have to poll them manually?

I currently have about 6 z wave switches and 3 Kwikset locks, and I have found that the locks don’t always register their correct status with my VeraLite. Most of my switches are within line of site of one another but I suppose I can continue to add more switches/repeaters to “strengthen” the network. What do you guys think? Perhaps other interferences in my house?

Mine will sometimes be wrong, especially if the lock status changes quickly (like being locked right after being unlocked).

My thinking is the secure communication takes times, and the messages are only valid for a short time. If Vera is busy handling some other events (such as a “home” scene starting when the lock is unlocked), then Vera is sometimes to “busy” to handle the lock event, and it gets lost.

I made things better for scenes such as my “bedtime” scene…the lights are set immediately, but my front door locks 20 seconds later, and the backdoor locks 40 seconds later. This allows the system time to settle, and then each lock can lock & update Vera on it’s own. When I had everything set to “immediate,” if either lock was unlocked, it would still lock, but the status was almost never correct.

Same experience here

I have a smallish (1500sf) house with a small system (57 Z-wave devices, 108 total devices, 133 scenes) and after almost three years, absolutely everything works as expected, some of the time.

This is not exactly on target, but I noticed you have a scene lock your locks. I can see nothing in the Automation section of Vera that will allow me to lock (or unlock) via a scene. Can you tell me (a real novice that knows nothing about programs) how to create a scene?
Thanks!

No programming should be required.

Create a scene like any other, and instead of “on” or “off”(like for a light), click “lock” or “unlock” for the lock.

I don’t see those choices. I have UI5, and to set a light off in a scene you select “set target” and enter 1 for on or 0 for off. There’s nothing that I can see to lock or unlock when I select a lock. What am I doing wrong? ???

You’re on the Devices tab when you edit the scene, right? Just click the thing you want to happen when the scene runs. See the screenshot.

Here is what my scene editor looks like for locks:
