How fast can Veralite React

I just got a veralite due to the fact we are hiring a dog walker and want to restrict access to a front door code to certain times. I already had a key code on the existing garage door door knob and like the added features of the Zwave enabled new front door deadbolt.

I finally got the door lock working and did a couple light switches to see how it worked. It appears to work well.

I was thinking about getting a motion detector to try and turn on my hallway lights as I walked down the hall way. Will the Vera and sensor be fast enough for this to work?

I don’t want to waste the money if this won’t really work well.

Probably. Maybe.

If the sensor is associated with the light, it should be instant. Even if Vera is powered off.

I didn’t know that the z wave devices could do peer to peer control.

After I was tipped off about associations I did a little reading and bought a Homeseer HSM100.

It works just as I would hope and is basically instantaneous.

I have the vera controlling everything.
In about 80% of the cases the action is almost instantly.
If the network is busy, vera will retry, and this may cause a 1-2 sec. Delay.

Pros for use the vera:

  • vera will retry to send commands (accotiations may do)
  • you can have the action based on other conditions as well

Cons against the vera

  • faster (we talking millisecounds-2-3 sec.)
  • works indipendend

You can have thesensors and lamps added to the vera and make the assotiations after, so you still have full control over the devices and enjoy the accotiation speed.

normally a z-wave control action would require about 100ms unless the z-wave network is busy or saturated

Or the vera is “busy” “doing nothing” which is quite often the case … 2 sec. To be on the safe side :slight_smile:

lol yes it is in resting mode when you do nothing for a while with it and it could take up to 20 secs.
