How does this benefit me?

Can someone tell me what Luup is and how will it benefit the Vera user who just likes controling things in their house?

Also, will there ever be a iPhone native app?

Yes, the native iPhone app is written for Luup. Luup adds support for Insteon/X10, infrared/universal remote control, and a bunch of plugins, like online weather, etc.

Is the Iphone app in the app store now?

Looks to me like they will have a native apps.

I’m sure someone from MCV will come along to clarify their intended meaning of “native”, but I remain convinced their short-term goal is to offer Java-based solutions that are “One size fits most” and not apps tailored to specific platforms, such as the iPhone (where “native” tends to mean, "Something you buy through the Apple store).

Hope I’m explaining myself a little better this round. If I’m wrong, and some devices like your iPhone wind up having “dedicated” apps - not merely pseudo-apps created through a Web portal and hosted on FindVera or your home network - then that would be a very elegant solution, indeed.

At the same time, it’s also a development-intensive proposition, which I seriously doubt MCV is prepared to devote its manpower to at the moment.

Again, I could be completely wrong, and hope an MCV staffer will clarify.

Definition of: native application

An application designed to run in the computer environment (machine language and OS) being referenced. The term is used to contrast a native application with an interpreted one such as a Java application that is not native to a single platform. The term may also be used to contrast a native application with an emulated application, which was originally written for a different platform.

LibraSun, that’s not correct. I have a ‘native’ iPhone app on my phone. It’s a beta, so it was manually provisioned and installed through iTunes (not in the App Store yet). It is very nice–you will be happy when you see it. But it’s a really ambitious application with lots of eye candy, which is why it’s taking so long to get done.

Can we see some screenshots of the app?

findvera.com/iphone doesn’t work anymore (i get a 404 error with the latest beta).

and

http://LAN-IP:3451/iphone

doesn’t seem to work anymore either…is this in preparation for the release of the native app?

madas, there’s a two-part answer to your question, which would have been cleared up with better (or any) documentation. Only because I read (and re-read) every single Forum post did I happen to “get the memo” on this:

  1. Luup-enabled firmware is intended to interact with a different “mobile URL”, namely FindVera.com/mobile (not the old /mo or /iphone ones).

1b. In conjunction with the new URL, one must also install the appropriate Luup plug-in (according to which phone platform you’re using).

  1. The old 3451 port has been depracated, and the proper port to use with Luup firmware is 49451. Also retired: Some of the old REST requests.

When I go to findvera.com/iphone on a computer, it works.

When I go there from an iPhone, I get a 404.

What is up?
