Hi,
I keep stumbling around z-wave.
Can I associate a single wall switch to multiple relays? If so will the devices keep working even if my VeraEdge goes down?
regards
Stian

Yes you can associate with multiple device up to a limit set by your device (mine are all 5 devices).
They must all be within range of each other as association does not use routing (as i found to my misfortune). Any not in direct range will need to use a scene.
They must all be within range of each other as association does not use routing
I do not think that this is a correct statement. I believe that associated devices can/do communicate through routed nodes. There may be manufacturer/device specific exceptions.
Unfortunately, I am not able to reliably test this at the moment. It would take some effort to make sure that one of my nodes was completely isolated.
Edit: I just tested this with a motion sensor associated with a lamp module. No scenes.
Together in the same room they work fine.
Put the lamp module out in the garage and the motion sensor will not activate it.
Heal network twice… Motion sensor activates/deactivates lamp module.
Unplug Vera. Motion Sensor activates lamp module.
Pull power on sole intermediate node connecting lamp module to the rest of the network. Motion sensor will not activate lamp module.
The other issue that you may not like is that if the associated device it triggered by the switch it will not provide status feedback to Vera. The is a function of Z-Wave not something that we chose the behavior of.

I wish it was not true as i have a problem area at the moment where two devices both have many duplicate neighbours but not including each other. They will not work via association unless they are moved closer to each other.
I tried many heals to no effect. I am told that routing is from controller to device and not device to device.
If you can advise otherwise and tell me how to sort my system i would be very happy.
See my question on device to device routing.
(Sorry don’t know how to link to actual post).
See my edited post above.
Associated devices do use the routed mesh to communicate and control other devices.
There may be exceptions with certain models (that I am unaware of) that don’t properly follow the Z-Wave spec.
Hi z-waver,
good news that it will work. Do you have any suggestions for my situation as this post.
