I’m looking for a way to keep track of the total cumulative running time of my furnace, season-to-season.
Is this possible? I’m fairly new to all this, so anything that points me in the right direction would be most helpful.
I’d like to be able to track my fuel oil usage, and am wondering what it would take for a plugin to be made.
I imagine something like this could be used for oil or natural/LP gas furnaces, as long as the quantity of fuel burned per hour is known, and the thermostat has the ability to tell Vera when it is actually heating (not just the fan, as that usually runs a while after the furnace turns off).
For example, my oil furnace burns 0.75 gallons of oil per hour of operation. The plugin could track cumulative operating time, and multiply that by 0.75 to give total consumption.
I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to learn Lua for a while, and would appreciate any help with this.
A further oil-heat-specific thought…
A way to enter tank capacity, or current oil level… In order to create a scene that would notify me when I reach a certain quantity and need to order more oil.
Just a thought… Just being able to track total consumption would be phenomenal in and of itself. Thanks for any help!
