I’m looking to monitor the the power to my Jacuzzi and I’m wondering if an Aeon Labs AEDSB09104ZWUS V1 http://www.amazon.com/Aeon-Labs-AEDSB09104ZWUS-Aeotec-Monitor/dp/B00DIBSKFU/ref=pd_rhf_gw_s_cp_18?ie=UTF8&refRID=0ZGA0CJ5YHDCKDGD8PQ1 sensor will allow me to detect if the power goes out to the tub. Knowing the power consumption is nice, but I need to know if I can detect when the power goes off/below a certain level using this device.
Easy to do with the Program Logic Event Generator (PLEG) app:
I made a YouTube video showing PLEG and a Home Energy Monitor (HEM) in action, turning a small light on and off in response to my house power going above and below set points:
How are you using the meter to monitor the Hot tub? My hot tub runs 220v, wires are ran through conduit… will a single clamp monitor all, or will I need both clamps, one per leg - meaning I’ll need to separate the wires from the conduit?
thx
A clamp monitor reads the total current inside the clamp. If you put the clamp around the feed AND return wires the current will read zero. You need to have the clamp just around one wire (normally the live but not essential). If the trunking is metal then the magnetic flux picked upby the clamp will also be blocked.
