Honeywell YTH8320ZW Auto Setpoints

Hi All,

I have a Vera Lite with UI6 and a Honeywell YTH8320 thermostat. The 2 devices are literally on opposite sides of a wall and I had no trouble pairing or with responsiveness. Problem is when running in Auto mode changing the heating or cooling setpoints does not do anything, though when going over directly to Heat/Cool mode temperature control works fine.

Not in both the Vera’s simple and advanced UI’s only 1 temperature value/setpoint is showing. Using the Homewave iOS app I am able to see the setpoints I configured from the thermostat itself, and I do get “green” success indicators when attempting to change from the app, however after exiting and entering the app the setpoints return to their old values.

When the thermostat was installed its scheduling capabilities were disabled, though I since enabled them. Would that affect things, or should the Vera Lite have updated those after several days through capability polling? Also, I notice thermostat says “Controlled via” ZWave . Should that be changed to Scene Controller ? Does having the auto mode on permanent hold make a difference? Thanks for your help!

Taking a total shot in the dark since I have no thermostats yet, but couldn’t you just use two scenes to simulate an “auto” mode?

Scene 1- Set to cool at setpoint of 75.

Scene 2- Set to heat at setpoint of 65.

Once again, talking out of my rear since I really have no experience with z-wave thermostats.

I have the same thermostat. I believe this thermostat is “either/ or”. If it is set up for scheduling, it will not follow zwave commands. If set up for zwave, no onboard scheduling, as this would presumably be done through the vera (or other controller.) I have never set mine up for scheduling.
When in auto mode, can you see both setpoints at the same time on the thermostat itself? If not, follow this thread to set up the thermostat to see both setpoints simultaneously: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,24902.msg174009.html#msg174009
This should allow you to see both setpoints in Vera as well as on the thermostat. Hope this helps.

Edit: I’m on UI5. I don’t know if this matters or not.

RHINESEL, thanks for your help. However, I have seen several support documents which show thermostats with dual (heat and cold) controls-

kev b, thanks as well. I actually read the thread you suggested before posting this. My thermostat does support auto with independent cool/heat setpoints from its own screen already.

This seems to be happening with other thermostats as well- see this thread: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,26111.0.html . Most common characteristic for people with this issue seems to involve being on UI6.
