Honeywell thermostats in a Church

I’ve been looking at this plug-in, but before I install and try it, can someone help me with a newbie question. I have a Veralite network that includes 4 Honeywell programmable thermostats (zwave of course). Anyway, we would like to log the room temperature over time. You see, this is an old, big church that takes forever to heat up or cool down. So we’d like to graph this information so that we can program the veralite to change the temperature with enough lead time. How do I determine if Datemine will work with these thermostats to do this for us?

If you decide to install Datamine, you will see that it can view all of your devices and all of the parameters that you will have the capability to monitor.

Thermostats, because of their obvious use of power, are amongst the best and easiest devices to graph.

You will want to attach a USB drive first, and set the unit up for USB logging.

So, if I understand correctly, I can assume then that Datamine uses the information directly from installed device itself vs. getting information about devices externally. Like someone might have sat down and defined the information on a device. If this is the case, I should not be concerned about getting this information from somewhere as it’s already in my Veralite. Correct?

COOL…

Well, the information is there but not stored in there. This plugin will check in with the devices you select and report into a file the parameters you which to record. Then, it stores it to a file on the USB drive.

It is cool, and it works really well. I have attached a screenshot showing temperature in our house, one weeks data. You can customize the times and a day, week, month and year come canned.

The other cool thing is it has its own address so you can graph without going through the UI.

Excellent. Thanks for your help. Now let’s see if I can get it installed.

Make sure you do this first:

a-lurker, I’m confused. The link went to what looks like some sort of log. What exactly am I suppose to do? Reading the dataMine overview, I don’t see anything about it there…

He repeated what I mentioned about adding a USB storage device , making sure that it is properly formatted for Vera, and enabling USB logging prior to installing the plugin. There are instructions on the Forum to properly initialize your USB drive to play well with vera.

When I view Setup->Logs-> I get the following information, so I can only “assume” that the USB flash drive is set up correctly. I got this by checking Store Logs on USB device"

WARNING: please do not remove USB stick while Vera is running.

In the Devices, there is one called “dataMine Graphing and Logging”. If I look at it’s properties via the Wrench I get:

Channels 0
Disk Space Total (kb)
Disk Space Used (kb)
Disk Space Free (kb)

I don’t see anything else that would allow me to select anything to be logged and graphed. What am I doing wrong.

As a side, my process was: install the physical USB drive, install dataMine. Then I read that the USB logging needed to be done first so I uninstalled dataMine, set the logging for the USB drive (it formatted also) and then reinstalled dataMine. But, the same results. Help.

Do you see the “datamine graphing page” link as shown in the attached after you select the wrench on the datamine device?

Once you select that, you will go into a page that has all of your devices, select Configuration tab on the upper left. Expand a device and select a data point, refer to 2nd screenshot. Be sure to enable logging on the right hand side.

I do see that link. However when I try to go to it, I get a message of “Page not found”. This happens in IE as well as Firefox.

I hate to say it buy you may want to uninstall the app. Then reboot (setup then Net&WiFi then Reboot) and try again to install the app.

are you on UI5 or UI6?

I uninstalled it and rebooted per your suggestion. Of course one thing that I don’t really understand is the lack of status when you take an action. Like when I depressed the Reboot button, nothing really happened and nothing said that it was complete. When I reloaded dataMine, same thing. How do you know when things are done?

Bottom line is, I and getting the same results. I am on U15. Any suggestions or information that I can send to you? I appreciate any help you can give.

FYI I am doing this remotely if that matters.

Wait. Are you trying to store the dataMine logs on the same USB drive as your Vera logs?

I have a Veralite. It only has one USB port. Is this a problem?

Yes, I believe it is. You may need to get a USB hub so you can use two different drives.

I can’t recall the details at the moment but I remember this practice being contraindicated. But don’t listen to me! I have 4 - karma points! Hopefully someone with more know how on this matter will chime in.

That all being said it should still work. You just may run into stability issues. So I suspect that there is still something wonky with your dataMine configuration.

Just so we’re clear:

The dataMine logs and the Vera logs are two completely different entities. Apples and oranges.

What you described earlier is the process to store the Vera logs on a USB drive (a good thing to do if you’re asking Vera to do anything more than manage your thermostats as the logs can take up a decent amount of Vera’s precious little RAM). Apples.

DataMine can write to a large assortment of locations. You could probably have it write to a remote server if you were so inclined. The data is logs isn’t system data but bits and pieces of the system data which are, hopefully, germane to the needs of the average end user. Oranges.

Vera is much more particular about how it stores it’s logs which is why there is the utility built into the UI to set up USB logging and you can format the drive for dataMine any old way.

Sounds like I have some work and more questions in the morning. Thanks.

it will work, and work well with one USB stick directly connected to vera lite.

look at the Logs configuration and check to see if is set up like the attached.

Yes, my log setup is identical to your example Bulldoglowell.

By the way, in the dataMine Overview/Manual it indicates the you should get a screen to select the USB UUID:. I never got that screen displayed.

So, on your advanced tab, under Variables your “SetMountUUID” is empty?
