Before knowing anything about Zwave I purchased a Honeywell 5200. I have since learned that this system needs to be run through a security service to get notices or use their app. I recently purchased the Vera to get around this since I read that it connects with most systems. So far I have not been able to have it connect and have now been told that it is not compatible with this Honeywell system. I am trying to confirm that this is correct or not. Other Honeywell systems are listed as compatible and I am trying to understand why this one might not be.
System was purchased a couple of months ago and completely set up so there is no way to return it. I am really hoping I do not have to buy another system. If I do go that route would I still be able to use the Honeywell door sensors and keyfob or are they proprietary.
The Honeywell 5200 is not compatible because there is no keypad bus to tie into. one option you have is to buy a vista 15p or 20p alarm panel and a wired keypad that has a built it rf receiver, Here is a kit that has everything. you can then use the existing wireless sensors you have. you can then tie the vera in using the AD2USB modual or the envisalink EVL-3 modual. I use the AD2USB has worked great for over two years, the Envisalink plugin for the honeywell has only been around a couple months but with that option you can also use the free service they offer for alerts as well as vera.
Here the sub forum for the AD2USB plugin
note: it looks like the new ad2usb ships with a newer usb chip that doesn’t work without updating the drivers in vera first.
Here is the discussion on the new envisalink plugin
