Anyone use just the SD card on a Hikvision camera to store videos? How does it work? I don’t really need or want an extensive, easy to access video history of the goings on at my front door. I would like to have a live feed for when the doorbell rings. I would also like a few days of video history in case of problem (package delivery or crime).
The spectrum for video seems to be: 1)Blue iris or milestone on a 24/7 windows machine. 2) Hikvision recorder (prices are not bad) 3) Writing files to an NFS capable NAS 4) FTP from the camera to somewhere. 5) The the SD card option on each camera.
I think a lot of vera users would like quality outside video without going to always on network storage. But I’m uncertain of the practicalities of using just the SD card on Hikvision.
I have 2 Hikvision cameras and I have 32G cards in both. You can access the video through the iVMS-4200 app or from the web page. My 32 gig chip holds about 2 months work of video and stills. I don’t get that much traffic at my front door so maybe 10 recordings a day.
The card deletes older files as it fills up. I have the Hikvision app on my tablet, my windows phone and running through BlueIris into my Vera that I have on a wall mounted ipad mini. I have it set to email me 3 snaps when it detects motion. It throws a fair amount of false alarms due to light and steam from the dryer etc. but never misses a real motion event.
