I just bought a VRCS2-MR, and plan to use it to control two local loads. I can only get it to show up as a scene controller by including via the amber lights and dongle method. Plug the dongle in and scene controller.
What I want it to do is to show as two independent items in the room (ie button 1 light, button 2 fan). I have the VRCS2-MR wired where the respective button controls the load.
It looks like you include the scene controller via the programming mode (pressing both buttons to get amber lights first, then turn on dongle in pairing mode).
Then you’d include the locals loads by putting the dongle in normal pairing mode and then pushing first one button (wait wile it pairs) then the other button. That way you’ll end up with a scene controller and two switches in Vera. Does this sound right?
I think there is something wrong on the backend of the latest UI3 firmware when it comes to adding new scene controllers. I have a ticket open with MCV on this and would encourage you to do the same thing…That way they know that it is an issue for multiple users. [ If you look around on the forum right now, there are a few active threads now expressing difficulty with scene controllers. I don’t think it is a coincidence! ]
There are only two physical buttons on this switch so you can use this switch to control two local loads, two scenes, or one local load and one scene. Am I understanding this correctly?
Yes, but you could control a scene which includes the local load or loads, or not. You could control the local loads from Vera or a remote or through a scene on a different controller. On one of mine, I use a minimote to control the loads and the scene buttons for other, more complex operations. These are very flexible.
Oh ok, so pressing the physical button doesn’t necessarily control the local load then? I am thinking about getting one of these and it was not clear because the instructions made it sound as if pressing the button will always control the local load if one is connected.
I currently have mine set up where pressing the button turns on/off the local load, it is the pairing that I had an issue with (getting it to talk to vera).
I like this control, because it works with motor loads, cfu, led, u name it. So you can use a single junction to control fan/light, or other combo.
Many thanks Barry!!!..for that tidbit you got my next order of switches!
What I missed from the other instructions was that you must press each button until it turns amber to pair the button, I was just pressing the button quickly like you would with any leviton switch.
I guess if ASI does not work for Barry you could be a tech writer…
Thank you !!
