Hi All,
I am a newbie on this subject. I have a garden of size around 1000 sq yards. I want to control its irrigation. What equipment should I use ? How to setup zones ? How to connect that to my veralite ? Is there any article for reading on this ?
Any help or information would be appreciated
Thanks…Shailendra Bansal

Shailendra Bansal,
Depending on where you are located the answer my vary, but the basics you would want to do is acquire a water source either utilizing the underground water source for your house by splitting into a manifold (also with an inline backflow preventer if req. by city/state zoning code) and off that manifold you’ll have valves that would be controlled by a solenoid for opening and closing the values at a specific time/ duration … I would advise you search google as you can find numerous resources on installing an irrigation system either inground or above ground again depends on your zoning code and how fancy you want to get with this project.
Some additional info on the basic functions of irrigation:
http://www.rainbird.com/homeowner/education/installationguide.htm
additional for the control box/controller for the valves you’ll want to use something like opensprinkler which has a plugin for the vera which then would allow you to control it with your vera.
you could eliminate the control box all together and just install z-wave enabled valves (unsure how they will do with the weather elements)
Sorry if this response is kind of all over the place, you are asking for help on something that there are lots of variables, but best advice i can give you is to get a basic understanding of irrigation systems, and then browse this forum the people here have touched on this subject and more in depth which will help aid in your understanding of the proper equipment that would work for you and your project.
