Need your help. After reading lot of reviews and comments, I recently bought VeraLite hoping that it “might” be mildly difficult to setup. I followed the steps to start and configure my veralite. It prompted to upgrade, which I did. Next I registered GE Light/Appliance module successfully. I can see that module on my dash board but fails to configure. If I press OFF or ON, it tries 5 times before throwing error… “Failed to get any information from node”. I have spent about 3 days now trying different options from heal to reset… removing the module and re-adding it again several times with same issue. Used vera routing instead of Z-Wave. Manual configuration after heal. Searched Google, YouTube and this forum but no clear direction. Please help ???. I have/had high hopes that I would be able to do this simple little thing.
My light module is physically about 1 meter away from my veralite. Most of the time I can leave it plugged-in to add or remove this module.

Hello! I’ve has some nodes I purchased occasionally be defective, exhibiting strange errors. Do you have another node you could try? Typically removing the node and adding it again resets the node. How are you removing the node?
I would try another zwave device first to rule out that Vera is the issue. If a second zwave device exhibits the same behavior, it could be that the antenna in the Vera is not properly seated.

Yes, I have door sensor that I could try with.
Adding/Inclusion - Press “+” button for a second and then press the button on GE light/appliance module. Wait for the confirmation and then press “+” button on the veralite for about 5 seconds.
Removing/Exclusion - Press “-” button for 5 seconds and then press the button on the module. Wait for the confirmation.

So I added Schlage door sensor to veralite. It’s successfully added however, I am not sure how to test that.
I added alert to the module and when tripped to send me an email. I put the magnet next to the sensor and after a minute later I separated them, hoping to get an alert. But nothing happened.
The light on the sensor stays on for about 10 secs and goes off for about another 10 secs. Not sure if this is normal.
When I remove the magnet, the light turns on though.
Any other way to test? Alerts from veralite has already been tested.
The icon (green standing man in the case of a motion sensor) changes when the sensor trips (to a red running man). I take it that you aren’t noticing the icon changing.
The micro connectors do seem like they are able to pop out during shipping perhaps.
Really? My experience has been that they are so tightly secured that you risk breaking something when removing them.
But, that’s all irrelevant. There are two things to remember. First, antenna issues are rare. Second, if you open the case, you void the warranty on your NEW Vera.
If you suspect that your Vera is defective, contact MCV or your distributor for a replacement. Do not open/modify the Vera, void your warranty, and then discover that it was defective.
There were a few cases in the past reported here, that I recall (and I’m thinking so does @garrettwp).
But yeah, one should understand the possible issues with opening up Vera. Perhaps contact MCV Tech Support, see what they think.
@supat,
Do you have the sensor right near Vera? Since the inclusion worked, I would think you could get it to work properly; at least when close to Vera. Watch for the changing icon, as @futzle mentioned.
@oTi@ - Sure. There are always a certain percentage of failures in mass produced electronic(and other) devices. Also, someone with a little experience could easily check the antenna connection, on the off chance that it was at fault. But, advising newcomers to void the warranty on day one wouldn’t be my recommendation even if exchanging the device was extremely inconvenient. I suppose $180 means more to me than others.

I did not pay attention to the icon. However, the alerts that I was expecting “Immediate”, were received later in the morning…almost about 6-8-10 hours later.
So now I know it is working. But, what can I do to get these alerts asap?
Second, I want to move this sensor around my house and check if it works. This time I’ll pay attention to the icon…not have to wait for 10 hours to receive the alert.

Not sure that this is part of the issue with delayed reporting but if your scenario is time dependant ensure you have setting both your location and time zone. It is a two part is is completed via Settings > Locations tabs.
I set the location and time zone. However, the messages are still not instant…I’m still receiving messages from tests I made 48 hours ago…slowly one at a time.
When I take my door sensor closer to the veralite then I can see the icon changing from red man running to green man standing and vice verse. This the place where I added the sensor to my network. Does it keep track where it was added? Which means I cannot move from the place where it was added.
Further, this test also didnot result in immediate text message notifications. Not sure what else I need to do…
Do I need to install a plugin?
