Help! Initial set-up failed

I just installed a bunch of z-wave switches and registered my vera on the find vera web site and thought I was following instructions ok, but after I got to the step that had me input names for all my new switches I the hit save button and the system hung and nothing happened. Now I can log in with my new name and password but get a message that vera cannot be found on my network. On vera the eth1 light is light but not the z-wave light. When I power vera on the z-wave stays light just for a few seconds and goes out. I also can’t get to vera by inputting the ip address indicated on the home page. Vera is plugged into my linksys router. Very frustrating. can someone help? thanks

I’ve found that you really need to hit save after inputing each new device or event you program in. It doesn’t seem to like when you have too much to save at once. As far as getting into Vera are you plugged into the LAN1 port and entering 192.168.81.1 ? Is the router in the WAN port? If you can’t get in you may have to reset it and start fresh with a reset. If that doesn’t work then you will need tech support or send it back.

THanks for trying to help. I am plugged into the eth1 on vera right from the router. Not sure what you mean by the WAN port. I tried going to the ip address you suggested but it times out. When I do get access to the findvera page it loads until I get the message “vera busy, re-trying” and then it times out after several attempts. I have no problem doing a re-set if that would work but wonder if there is some other setting I am missing, such as the wan port you mention. Help is very appreciated as I have no reply from the trouble ticket I sent or the monitoring that I downloaded.
thanks again.

I’ve noted that 100 people have viewed my post but only 1 person has tried to help and not someone from casaverde. I assume the 100 views means there a lot of people who share my problem. I’ve called several times but there has never been a technician available to come to the phone. Once they called back but not when I was home. They seem to be understaffed and not able to schedule call backs to take care of customers. Very frustrating. Also, no weekend support hours so even if this problem gets solved I would be hesitant to add a door lock to the system. ???

I’m new as well (about a week now) and this was a panic for me last weekend as well. I’ve learned that a LOT of patients with Vera is necessary. I will get the busy or can’t find vera error and just go read the news for 15 minutes and then start wailing on the “Try again” link or refresh button until it seems to randomly see it again. Logging out and back in seems to help speed this up and clearing your cache seems to help when it’s really hung up. I have no idea why this is because sometimes I plug in and it pops right up.

Good luck and here’s some of my favorite reading while you wait ;D

Happy to report that tech support did a great job looking into and solving my problem. It seems a file was corrupted and there was no way I could have solved this myself. I also learned that going right to set-up gave me menu options I couldn’t get by signing in while I had my Vera communications issues. Counter intuitive to me that not logging in would help. By doing this I was able to enable the expert help option for remote access to my vera box.
Thanks also to the 2 people who responded on the forum trying to be helpful.

You pretty much have to enter the setup from the local network side before attempting to configure the Vera for use with the Find Vera service. Plus as someone else indicated, you should do one thing at a time when configuring the Vera,… The K-I-S-S philosophy is important,… (Keep-It-Simple-[whatever derogatory S-word you want]).

While the Vera may seem very unfinished as a product, it is the most refined product of its kind out there, that doesn’t cost you $10,000 or so, at least. At least that is my take on it after extensive research (including LinuxMCE/PlutoHome as a comparison).
