Hi,
I am building a new house and was pretty much set to install a Omnipro II controller until I found this micasaverde.
It sounds really good, but after reading all the docs and messages I could, I still have some questions.
The plan would be to install a Vera3 with maybe a light as a repeater. The house is 3900sf but spread out.
I would like to have 2 doors locking/unlocking. Sensors to identify open and closed windows/doors. First question :
- How do you connect wired windows/door sensors to the Vera3, as wells as a wired security camera ?
Planning to install a few NEST 2.0 thermostat. I saw there is a plugin available. It seems to allow the Vera3 to control the NEST.
2) How much control does it allow ? can you set the temperature remotely with an app such as Irule ?
I am located in Central Florida. The winter time is beautiful. I would like to setup a system that will sense the temp and humidity outside and based on certain criterias automatically open windows. I would obviously need rain sensor, temp and humidity sensors too. Here’s the window opener I would like to use :

3) Are there any rain, temp, humidity sensors compatible with the Vera3 ? Wired or wireless ?
4) Is there a IR blaster system that could work with the window opener ?
- I am new to Zwave, I read that I need a special remote to program devices, is that true ?
- Read that micasaverde might have updated equipment this august, anybody knows anything ?
Lots of questions I know. I look forward for help since we are at the electrical installation stage in the house. I need to make a decision quickly.
Thanks.
Make sure they use DEEP boxes for all switches … Lots of extra room to add goodies later.
The best way to use wired Sensors (and the best Motion sensors) are via an alarm system attached to Vera … For Example See:
http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,13773.0.html
Wire motion sensors in closets, bedrooms, bathrooms, … You can use these for automation of lights in the same rooms as well as alarm sensors.
Vera Connects to IP cameras … So the wired cameras provide POE back to a router.
No special remote needed to program Z-Wave devices. There are IOS and Android apps to remotely control Vera, the Alarm system, and monitor the cameras.
There are various options for IR connectivity. You could have IR emitters wires run to each window (a couple of extra wires(3) while you are doing the alarm system) and centralize. This will also allow you to upgrade to alternate window technologies in the future.
With the size of your house you will definitely want to extend the antennae see:

If that still does not work you may need to go to 2 Veras that can be joined to look like one.

Most of the questions you have posed are available in different threads throughout the forum. You can use google to search example:
Site: forum.micasaverede.com rollertrol
Returns:

And you find the method used is… RFXtrx device from RFXCOM.
1a. Have a look at an alarm system such as the DSC and EVL3 - over IP
1b. Look at compatible IP like foscam - over IP
-
A lot but directly, it does not need to control iRule but the Nest.
-
if you get rfxtrx you can use. Oregon weather station or their devices or use Weather underground app. There are other brands that can be used as well.
-
That depends or brand and frequencies. See
http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php?topic=9555.0 for other ways to achieve this via RF and would be cheaper if dispersed.

No, you do not need to program the devices, you may have been reading about z-wave developer and this is not required. Vera can do the control aspect.
There are some post on the forum about this but unsure of timelines and the initial changes they will deliver. But you maybe correct as they now offer the Vera 3 for $249 on their website which indicate the special is to move stock. There were people who asked the same prior to the Vera 3 release and they took a while to receive their units after the official release date.
You can get weather with a plugin for the vera.
As for sensors, run wires for contact sensors and motion sensors everywhere while walls are open. Interface with a DSC 1864 alarm over IP to get status on these and you’ll save a lot of money on sensors and replacing batteries. I think the EVL3 does honeywell alarms as well.
If you haven’t already setup a network closet and run all your wires there for servers, switches, etc. If you’re interested in security cameras run cat 6 for POE to their locations from the closet.
