I have a ZRM230 which is a switch with two pads.
One of the pads controls the attached load while the other pad can control groups of other z-wave devices (well, the first pad can as well).
I have seen in “Devices” → “+” → “ZWave options” that it should be possible to associate a group to the device.
But, how do I make such a group and how do I associate an action to such a group?
What I would like to be able to do is to switch on/off another z-wave device by tapping the right pad.
We’ve discussed groups and associations before. The thing is, groups are usually manufacturer specific. So you’d need to know the group id in order to add to it.
The manual that comes with the device says that group 2 & 3 can be associated to the right switch.
So, I put 2 into the “Group ID” box, pressed “Add Group” and then “Configure node right now”.
After that it seems to work quite good. The switch does not work all the times…
One additional question,
if I look on the “Z-wave options” for the ZRM230 it says:
Group ID: 2
Set to: 20
Currently: 17,20,
What is meant with both 17 and 20 being set to “Currently”?
I noticed Vera’s USB Z-Wave dongle gets added to the group automatically (which in your case is Device #17).
What is meant with both 17 and 20 being set to "Currently"?
Vera will set the group information that you specify, and will also interrogate the device to find what group information the device is reporting. This is because, in addition to the group information you specify with Vera, you may have other Z-Wave controllers/gateways that set other group information, and Vera may create some association/configuration automatically as well. So the “Currently” let’s you see what the device is actually reporting.
And, BTW, click the ‘configure right now’ button to force Vera to re-configure the device. This is particularly important for battery operated devices that give you a very narrow window of time to configure them after inserting the batteries.
Is it so that the device that I want to use as a transmitter (the ZRM230) talks via Vera when used as a controller for its associated device, or does it talk directly to the associated device?
I am asking because it does not work that good. I have to push the device switch several times before the associated device actually switches, and sometimes I never manage to switch the associated device.
So, to solve the problem, should I look at the coverage from the ZRM230 to Vera and at the coverage from Vera to the associated device, or from the ZRM230 directly to the associated device, or could it be that I have failed in my configuration of the devices?
Association is a low-level Z-Wave function and once created with a Primary Controller (Vera or not) it works directly between associated devices and does not require Primary Controller any longer.
Vera’s scenes with events on the other hand can emulate associations to some extent - in that case Vera handles the logic and communicates with individual devices.
I have bought one more ZRM230 and are now trying to associate a device to it, but now it does not work.
I am running on 1.0.541 and when I have added group number two to the device by pressing the “Add group” I can’t figure out how to associate a device to it. There is just no field or anything where I can fill that information in, as far as I can see.
