i’ve searched and found some old post regarding location based scenes. but now that google latitude has matured quite a bit and seems to work really well, any plans to introduce the latitude api into the vera?
Is google latitude even that accurate as to determining what room you are in? What if you live in a high rise tower or building… its definitely not accurate there? Do you have a different experience?
I’m sure the intent is more like Scene X runs when google knows I’m at work, have Scene Y run when I’m within so many miles of home, have Scene Z run when I get home, etc.

it’s pretty darn accurate. but yes, scenes based on distance from home (for any connected phone) is exactly what i am looking for.
latitude to me is hit or miss… On my droid (original Motorola model) when I first started using latitude it had me perfectly located. Then it started missing completely. I would be at work and notice that it had me still at home. It started working again but then in the last month has started acting up and not tracking me. I don’t always run the latitude app, but according to Google you shouldn’t have to. During the times it had me tracking perfectly I had not even run the app on my phone. Just this week I was using latitude while on the way to work to check where someone else was. I know I had it running right up to the point where I got to work. I turned the phone off (I don’t take it in work). Noticed that latitude on web browser at work still thought I was at home!
Sitting at home sometimes it has me spot on, other times it has me 10 miles away. (With phone on)
I find latitude to be a nice toy but nothing to be relied on. Your mileage may vary depending on phone, carrier and proximity of towers (yes I have GPS enabled on my phone)
Lattitude doesn’t get updated when handset is sleeping.
And if you don’t let it sleep it won’t get updated because of a dead battery.

the iphone app now continuously updates the location.
RFID plugin seems to be the way to go for Home/Away scene stuff, Latitude simply is way off more than half the time. I haven’t tried RFID with Vera2 yet, but it’s on my list in the coming months
it’s more about someone is coming home rather than someone is home.
i know several people mention it is not accurate, but for me and everyone i know that uses it do not have an issue with accuracy. with the history tracker, i can even determine how many times i leave my cubicle at work.
Any news on this one?
