Getting Linear accessory dimmer to work

Hi all,

We’ve had our HA equipment installed for a while but hadn’t yet had a chance to set up Veralite until today.

We’re slowly connecting devices and are having trouble with our three-way Linear dimmers (WD500Z and WT500Z). We’ve been able to pair the WD500Zs that are one-ways just fine.

But the WD500Zs that are part of a group won’t sync with Vera correctly. Sometimes nothing happens. Once a scene controller showed up but it didn’t enable us to do anything (couldn’t turn on the light or anything). And, from what I understand, we shouldn’t try to pair the accessory switches to Vera directly? (Although we did try, but with no luck).

I can’t seem to find how to create a group for them, which is what it sounds like I need to do. I’ve looked on here, general web searches, and the Linear installation manuals. I found some info on using a minimote, but other posts seem to indicate that I should be able to create the group and get the switches to work with just Vera.

I’m not trying to create multiple groups (which it sounds like they can’t do). Just a regular 3-way or 4-way switch.

What are we doing wrong?? Help please!

AN UPDATE!

We keep trying new things and I have more information that may be helpful.

The accessory switches (WT500) are showing up as scene controllers. But we’re not sure how to group the scene controllers with the appropriate main switch (WD500). The main switches are working fine on their own but clearly we want them to work as a 3-way or 4-way. I’m realizing that we need to make the connection via Veralite somehow, but we cannot figure out how.

The Linear instructions indicate that we should create a group in the controller (vera, I assume) and then pair the switch. But then what I can find on creating groups in Vera seems to indicate that we create a group and then note which device we want to add, but the devices have already been paired.

This seems like something that should be so easy and that I should be able to find directions on, but clearly my sleuthing abilities fail me! Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!!

On the WT500, go to device options and ‘Add’ group 1. Then hit the ‘Set’ button and select the WD500 dimmer(s) that you want this 3-way to control.

Each switch, the WD500Z-1 and the WT00Z-1 must be paired(included) in the Z-Wave network with Vera. After they are included, you must then associate the WD500Z-1 with the WT00Z-1.

To associate one or more Evolve WT00Z-1 remotes with a WD500Z-1 master switch:

  1. Click the wrench on the WT00Z-1 then click the Device Options tab.

  2. In the group ID field type 1 and click Add group.

  3. Under the new Group ID 1 heading click the Set button.

  4. Find your WD500Z-1 on the list and check the box next to it, then click “Back to Z-Wave options” at the bottom of the page.

  5. Click the X to close the WT00Z-1 property sheet.

  6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 for any other WT00Z-1’s that you wish to connect to the same WD500Z-1.

  7. Finally click the Save button at the top right of the page.

The dimmers and associated remotes should now work together even without Vera.

Seriously love you guys! Thank you soo much! Will try again tonight.
