I just purchased a Huawei Boltz 4G USB Stick, and would like to know how to supply my controller with a backup internet connection. The USB Stick has an active SIM Card, and I can confirm that the line of service is active on my wireless carrier- I can plug it into my laptop and surf the web.
I plugged the stick into my controller, but in the UI7 menu, it is not detected, and if I remove the ethernet cable from the WAN Port, there is no automated fail-over behavior.
I am disappointed that this is not plug-n-play: I wanted a Vera Controller with Cellular WAN and power backup, but all the devices I intended to use with a controller are not reported as compatible with VeraSecure and I purchased the VeraPlus. I will be royally irked if I just bought a 4G USB Stick and added a line of service to my mobile plan for nothing.
Assuming you have tried Vera Support for advice - if there?s no built in support - you could maybe explore what could be done do create it. A potential place to start is understanding what Vera UI7 runs on. (Extract below is from logging in via SSH - note the warning )
BusyBox v1.19.4 (2016-11-29 21:02:24 EET) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

I recall ISP routers etc being customised with Opewrt so they can be set up with a wireless 3G dongle to act as an emergency back up @ a quick google search and I found this - Wireless Router with a 3G/UMTS/HSDPA dongle
Just be careful what you tweak…
