Geofencing on Android Devices, anyone get it to work effectively?

Ok, so I decided to give Geofencing a try on my Vera Android app, and I can’t seem to get it to actually do anything. I get notified when I exit/enter the ‘fence’ parameters, but Vera doesn’t switch to home/away modes when I do so.

A couple of things I should highlight:

  1. When setting the ‘Home’ fence, I wasn’t able to actually make a ‘fence’ perimeter. I had to just select my ‘home’ geographic location, even though it looks like it’s set up as a fence in the Geofence menu on the phone [it does have a home icon though], I then set up the fence parameters I’d like to use as a second ‘fence’

  2. I created a user name for my wife so that she can have it on her phone and when I leave the ‘fence’ it doesn’t shut everything off on her when switching to away mode [though it doesn’t seem to actually switch to anything, as stated above].

If anyone could help, or explain how this should be set up, and/or how I can set it up so it works, I’d really appreciate it.

I got it working very well on VeraPlus with 1.7.3232, but i had to change to .3015 because of another issue.

I made a perimiter of 500 meters so that GPS glitches wouldn’t set the fence off. I set it up on my wifes iphone as well so it works well just like you said.

It seems that they made it work with the latest release, .3015 does not work well for geofencing.

Let me guess… Schlage Locks?

You mentioned second fence. As far as I know the geofencing does not do well with two geofences.
You should make only one geofence.
Make sure you set up the geofence options in the modes section of your controllers web UI.
This shows you how to.

So is there a plugin for this and what do you control with it?

Thanks!

The RFX you mean? Yes, good plugin too.

I have a lot of 433 devices, motion, temperature, humidity, power switches/dimmers… works great!

Yeah, that’s what I meant. I guess you’re not in the US? I think things like ceiling fans are on 309.xx Mhz so this would be incompatible. Do they offer other frequencies? Sorry to hijack here but I was not aware of this device until just now.

On the OP, I’ve never got Geofencing to work right. I guess this latest f/w update works better but I can’t use it and control my locks so I’ll wait for MCV to get it together.

I’m in Norway (not in Maine, actual Norway ;D )

I’ve seen some talk about a 315Mhz version, but i couldnt find any for sale… maybe thats for the US?

I didn’t know there was a Noway in Maine… Keep warm up there!

IDK if the 315Mhz version works even on ceiling fans at 309Mhz. This is why I’m reluctant to go down this road.
