I am having some trouble in editing generic devices. I have a smoke sensor that is z-wave enabled and want to change this to a Siren Logo, Is there any way I can customize this?
No.
also will some sirens work. This device just says its on and I can't turn it off. What?
Well about the siren, Its made in China and it functions with Z-wave, I was wondering if it will work in vera? It just turns on and is also seen as a generic device. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
So you hear an alarm all the time? ??? You cannot trip/untrip it?
Not all Z-Wave devices work with all versions of Vera. It is difficult to answer your question or to determine what a problem might be without critical information including:
Which Vera and firmware version do you have?
What make and model device(siren) are you working with?
What exactly is the issue that you are experiencing?
You mention that it is “seen as a generic device”. If the siren shows up in the Vera GUI as a generic device, it means that Vera does not recognize the device and will probably be unable to understand or work with the device. Sometimes this is due to an inclusion error and excluding and re-including the device will resolve it. But, sometimes Vera simply has no idea what the device is.
You can manually tell Vera what type of device it is and Vera may start working or partially working with the device. To force Vera to treat your generic device as a siren, you need to change the device settings to match the following fields:
Device_Type: urn:schemas-micasaverde-com:device:Siren1
Device_File: D_Siren1.xml
Device_Json: D_Siren1.json
I just need the smoke siren to behave as a smoke siren. Do I need help from their tech support to program this z-wave?
or is there another way I can program this siren to a smoke sensor. Or Smoke Siren?
???
Before anyone can help, you need to answer z-waver’s questions:
Which Vera and firmware version do you have?
What make and model device(siren) are you working with?
What exactly is the issue that you are experiencing?
Otherwise there isn’t enough info to even start to answer your question.
Which Vera and firmware version do you have?
1.7.760
Vera Edge
What make and model device(siren) are you working with?
U-Fairy Smoke sensor/siren (z-wave) - Check the link
What exactly is the issue that you are experiencing?
Since its not in the list of smoke sirens, it is treated as a generic device, I want this to behave as a Smoke Sensor.
Hope this answers your questions.
This is straight from the ODM (Original Device Manufacturer) in China. It looks like some kind of smoke detector but it says “Detector for Smoke, LNG, LPG, alcohol, irritant gases”. Most combo sensors require significant documentation to be supported by zwave hubs. I haven’t found any documentation that would allow you to code your own device XML.
Unless a Western company begins importing these under their own label, I wouldn’t expect it to work.
To be honest, the only zwave devices I would buy from alibaba are on/off, open/close devices that will be usable with the generic zwave profile on any zwave controller. Anything else is a matter of luck.
so it won’t work right? Can you give me an idea of smoke sensors that probably would work best with Vera Edge or Vera Lite. It seems that I need help via their tech support.
Will update this thread the soonest.
I have the monoprice smoke alarms on my ui5. You have ui7 so you should be able to use the first alert zcombo sensors. Try over at the security forum to see if there are others.
