In my last home I had GE switches throughout. I had thought that I liked the fact that they return to the previous dim level when you turn them on manually at the switch (or with a remote), but after a while of having switches that don’t do this, I kind of think I hate it.
Is there a way to turn off the “previous dim level” feature? I’d like that if the light is off, pressing “on” would turn the light all the way up, like the Intermatic switches do. I found a previous thread on the boards here, but it didn’t seem conclusive and I wasn’t sure if something has changed in this area.
No ideas? I’ll understand if it isn’t possible. Also, which other switches do this? Do the Evolve switches? Are there any switches where it’s a user option?
The X10 switches had a “double press” that would bring them to full brightness, and I still do that to the GE switches by habit. Of course, it does nothing.
I too would like a way to disable this (always go from off to full brightness, instead of last-dim-level-used).
The GE switches have a few variable parameters, and I get the feeling not all of them are documented. You could experiment there.
I have a few of the Evolve LDM-15 dimmer modules (not switches) and they behave almost the same way. I control these lights with 3 devices- a GE 45631 switch, a GE 45600 remote control, and SQRemote HD on iphone/ipad. If I turn this light on to only, say, 50% and turn it off, using either the GE switch or the GE Remote, it will turn back on only 50%. With SQRemote I can get it back on at 100% via a dimmer control, but if I just use an on/off switch, it will go back on at only 50%.
However, I have found that if I hit the on button a second time on the GE 45600 remote, the light will then bump to 100%.
Not the greatest set up but it works. I have a scene that turns my bedroom Evolve light on to 50% weekday mornings at 6:15 AM, and to get around this behavior, I added a step before it turns off in which it goes from 50% to 100% so the next time I use either of the GE controls to turn it on, it goes on at 100%. So I’ve been at least able to mitigate the issue enough to not be so annoying.
