GE/Jasco On/Off In 4 way

I just hooked a GE/Jasco On/Off switch in a 4 way (three switches). I actually did a five way with three auxiliary switches but it was not working so I took one out of the loop (after I read it supports 4 way but does not state five way).

In both scenarios, the Vera 3 can control the switch. When I manually turn any of the switches on or off, the light goes on and off, but the controller is not updated if I use one of the auxiliary switches. If I turn it on with the auxiliary switch, on the web UI or android APP it still says it is off still. Or the other way around. So even if I turn it on, the controller still says it is off. If I do it with the main switch, the controller is updated pretty much instantly. I tried excluding and then re-including the switch, but the same thing happens.

Could hooking it up in a five way damaged the switch? Could it just be a bad switch?

Since the auxiliary switches actually turn the lights on and off, the auxiliary switch is sending the message to the main switch. For whatever reason, the switch is not updating the controller when using one of the auxiliary.

EDIT: I just checked one of my other four way switches (three switches) and three way (two switches) and there seems to be a delay in updating the controller on this one. Takes a few minutes for the controller to see it is off if I press the remote switch. I always thought it was close to instant. However, on this new one. It seems to not update even after 10 minutes if I use the auxiliary.

Any ideas? Should I do a repair network and if so, what settings. I am still new to the Vera3. Although I have a bunch of swiches already.

thanks,

Mike

because GE switches so not support Instant Status, you may see a delay in when Vera sees that the switch changed status.

It should reflect the change in vera’s next poll.

These switches do not support instant status. You will need to wait for the controller to poll the switch to update its status. This is why you see a delay. You shouldn’t see a delay when activated by Vera or an app. Only when physically activated at the switch.

Also to add to what Garrett we said, they don’t support 5 way configurations.

thanks. but should it update within a few minutes? I am seeing that on some of my other 3 way and 4 way switches I did a few weeks back. For this one I did today, after 5 minutes, it still does not update.

Just wondering if something is defective.

Thanks,

Mike

I find the UI to not always be so responsive unless it’s reloaded after a while. Do remote apps also show this delay? I don’t see as much of this with the remote app I use, AutHomation made by the above garettwp.

Did you perform a zwave heal?

thanks. I did not try a heal yet. What is the correct way? Go to Setup/Z-Wave Settings/Repair? I have read to select “Only update Vera routing (overrides other settings)” should I do that or leave default without is checked.

Also, I have been adding one to four devices every week for around 6 weeks now. Does it make sense that a repair is needed every once in a while as the z wave network grows with more devices?

thanks,

Mike

You should perform a heal whenever you add a new zwave device to your network. It could be that the new switch is too far away from Vera to communicate back, but enough for Vera to send commands to.

I ran the heal with “Only update Vera routing (overrides other settings)” checked.

it finished in less than an hour. On the results, all the stars are white and when I hover, nothing happens.

Is this normal?

thanks,

Mike
