ge 45605 questions...

I have a new build, and am asking the builder to have the electrician install the GE 45605 outlets. He said that he needed to talk to the electrician because he doesn’t think they meet MI code.

Can anyone let me know if there are resources I can look at to find out about this?

You could read the code. I found this 2011 Ed. Michigan Electric code. But why? Your electrician is the best resource for this question.

I know nothing about the specifics of Michigan’s(?) electrical code. I do know that the GE 45605 is UL and FCC listed and complies with the National Electric Code(NEC) that most localities adopt as their own. There are some places though that have additional or more stringent code than NEC.

Just heard back… they need to be tamper resistant, which the GE ones are not.

Cooper has some, but they are 3x the price. Wondering if anyone has recommendations for an alternative…

Have electrician install contractor grade outlets and swap out later.

You probably need fewer than you would install now anyways.

Of the 5 I installed, I am only using 2 (for a wall fountain). Other than that, Hue lights have taken over (which need to be always on). I could use them more often, but need the energy meters built in to the Aeon Smart Switch for any device that varies the watts used.

Even if you can’t wire, I would have them install an extra gang (and just put a blanking panel) for every major room light switch. This will allow you to install scene controllers in the future.

Be sure to install the larger electrical boxes. Should be almost free at the installation level.

I was going to have them install the Aeotech Microwave Dimmer for each switch. Probably a bit overkill, but it’s less painful to do it now, rather than do it later…
