GE 45605 Duplex Receptacle - not working

Yesterday I added a GE 45605 to my Vera2 z-wave network to control a light in my garage. I wanted to set it up to turn on for a short duration when the Schlage Link lever lock is opened. The problem is that I cannot get the 45605 to configure on the Vera2. I have tried removing the device and reinstalling it and I have moved the Vera2 to a very close (within 10’) location of the 45605 and still no luck configuring. I let it go through the full heal and stress test and the device would not configure. I am wondering if I may have a defective 45605 or if there is something else I need to try before sending it back.

The rest of my network seems to work although I cannot use Findvera.com and I don’t get any notifications for whatever reason (any thoughts on these issues are also much appreciated!)

Thanks for any help offered.

Is it not configuring, or not showing up at all in any way on Vera?
Did you mean 10" (inches)? Did you wait for the ZWave light on Vera to return to slow blinking when you included the outlet?

Sounds like you already have local access to your Vera.

If you’re looking to get remote access and notifications use: MiOS

Sorry for the confusion. Yes. It is paired with Vera and shows up on the dashboard. It just is not configured and will not seem to configure.

After I moved my Vera2 back to it’s original location I have to reconfigure some other devices that were unreachable by Vera in it’s temp. garage location. I was able to get my other locks and things back in communication by using the configure button in the setting for each device.

Yes. I even have remote access but sometimes it does not connect remotely although the Mios tech team has checked that out and indicate all is fine with that part. ;D

I finally got a notification to work today. I went in to the Vera2 wizard and set up a simple notification there for a door unlock scenario and that works. What does not seem to work is the notifications that are part of a scene. I have never received anything from those. :o. I will play around with those some more and see if there is something I can do from the wizard to make those work.

Thanks for those suggestions!

OK; that could mean that now the reverse is true and your outlet is unreachable. Would it be possible for you to move Vera close to the outlet again and see if it will configure properly? You could wirelessly log on to Vera and go to http://192.168.81.1/cmh/ to pull up the dashboard, if you have no wired LAN connection to plug into Vera near where the outlet is.

I just put vera back out there with 45605 and same thing. When I attempt to configure it I get the message “unable to get any information on node”??? Vera is 7 inches away from 45605. The last time I tried this Vera was 10 feet from 45605.

Not sure what else to try. I have a Schlage Lever lock less that 7 feet away and it does not recognize 45605 as a neighbor but perhaps it would not until 45605 was configured in the network. :-\

Have you tried excluding and including it again while Vera is close to it?

Can you describe this process? I have removed the node (probably not the best idea) and paired it back to Vera twice.

I have convinced myself that the 45605 is defective. I pulled it from the wall and attached a three prong plug to facilitate testing at Vera2 and I was unable to get the 45605 to pair back to Vera after removing it yet again. At this point, the button on 45605 does not reliably turn the outlet on and off and it jumps from off to on and back to off or vice versa.

The seller has agreed to exchange it so I am sending it back in the morning.

Hopefully the next one will operate normally.

I was curious if anyone else has had trouble with these because the prices are widely varied from $25 to $65 and of course I bought one for $25 and I can’t help but wonder if there is a problem with a batch of these that are being sold on the internet at this time for $25. I have heard that at one time RS sold these for even less. Just want to make sure I’m not wasting my time with the cheap ones if these is some known difference that caused a problem with Vera.

Thanks!

Did you get it new, in a sealed package? There is a 2 year warranty on them. RS did sell them for less, but those are hard to find. I don’t think there’s good or bad batches and that it would explain the price difference / that an expensive one is necessarily better.

You can still find a few of these at local Radio Shacks, picked up another one just today for $9.97

Check the “date code” and Zwave version, the ones I have been buying with “0933” and “0934” (33rd and 34th week of 2009) have been Zwave version 2.0a, which supports secure beaming (if you plan on using Schlage or other locks that use the secure version of Zwave).

I also have some of the older date codes, “0751” (51st week of 2007), these only have Zwave version 2.0, I think without the “a”, you don’t get secure beaming support. Something else to keep in mind.

Which is the we’re-getting-out-of-selling-zwave-stuff price. (The proprietary Z-Wave chip alone is $5.) Those date codes are probably another indication of why RS got out of it.

Yes, it was new in a sealed package. I was quite surprised that I could not get it to work considering the ease of the other devices that I have in my network.

Great to know about the date codes, mine is 0933. Sounds like it should have worked. I should have the replacement in a week or so and I’ll post back on how that goes.

There is still a lot about Vera that I need to figure out. I was to unable to remove this device without killing the node and I think I understand that you should not have to go to this extreme.

Thanks for the assistance!

The replacement 45605 Duplex Receptacle has arrived and has been installed for a few days now and it’s working fine. Remote access and notifications are also working quite well now that I understand the Vera2 a bit better. 8)

Great! Thanks for reporting back.

I have been trying to get one working, brand new in sealed plastic, for a few days now.
Could quality control on these be that bad?. We will see.

I bought 3 GE outdoor modules from RS. Two of them had bad switches, and I exchanged them. The replacements seem OK, but 67% failure on the first batch is not good.

I suppose it is. But maybe not so much.I gave one up for dead, tried for days to get it working to no avail. Then I held in the Zwave black button for 3 seconds and paired up again and it works perfect now. Something about holding that button for 3 seconds resets things.
