Seems like I saw an inline module you could install between your regular opener and the garage door that was activated via z-wave. Maybe though Wayne Dalton. Anyway, I can’t find it now. Anyone know anything about where I can get one?. Thanks
Here you go. Note that the remote itself is NOT z-wave.

From what I understand the Wayne Dalton solution does not allow remote opening via z-wave of the garage door. Some obscure law I think. The WD z-wave interface only allows you to control your current z-wave devices. And the WD pocket remote I’m pretty sure is not z-wave, it is bridged from the WD gateway to open your garage door on a seperate non zwave freql and initiate zwave commands. So you could not program Vera to close the garage door everynight.
I think Everspring was supposed to release a low voltage dry contact relay to control your existing door. A far cheaper solution.
The thing I’m trying to explore on the garage door by WD, whether it’s the opener kit or the inline device that I would be able to add to my existing Genie: do either of these report the current status of the door? A typical garage door button is just a simple button, you push it to open, and push it to close, and I’m not aware of any which will tell you if the door itself is in the open or closed state.
I also want to know whether the Wayne Dalton Gateway will monitor whether my garage door is open or closed. Apparently it won’t actually open or close the door (anybody know?) but I could at least answer that age-old question of whether I forgot to close it when I left the driveway. (Frankly, if that’s all it will do, maybe I’ll get a door sensor instead).
I saw some information elsewhere that implied that a z-wave garage door opener could be improvised by using an appliance plug-in module to control a dry relay on the opener. Does anybody have details/directions for how to accomplish this? Because once I realize that I forgot to close the door, it’d be nice to be able to close it without going all the way back home.
Ping.
No ideas? I want to open and close my garage door, or at the very least, see whether its status is opened or closed. What do I need?
So far, I have found out the hard way that the “conversion module” from WD is NOT z-wave. The gateway supposedly is… but I am not confident that it’s going to help me any.
WD module won’t let you control the door using z-wave. However you will be able to use relay I/O modules wired in parallel to the door button, controlled over RS232 or Insteon from Vera.
As for status - use z-wave contact sensor.
Yes, use a Z-wave window sensor for the door and a relay contact controller to open and close it. That is what I was thinking except the relay is not momentary like it should be. So either some new “scene” or software to turn it on and then turn it off or find a new relay controller.
This is where I am in my thinking on this problem. I am real close to ordering the parts but I haven’t yet. If someone has a better solution I would love to hear it before I start cobbling one up.
I was thinking, would it be possible to do a door sensor on the door, and then do a intermatic ca3750.
Have vera thru a scene tell the ca3750 to close the circuit which is wired to the push button (open the door). Then when it detects from the door sensor that the door is open, open the circuit back up.
Then to close, same thing, vera activates a scene, closing the circuit, hence closing the door, and when the door sensor is closed re-open the circuit.
The problem that I foresee with doing this is, on open the circuit would stay closed for the couple seconds (2-3?) for the opener to break the sensor, but on close, it would keep the circuit closed until the door got all the way down, 20-30 seconds depending on door. Would that cause an issue with the opener of “holding the button” to long.
Also, for the CA3750, I couldn’t find where it says that it passes current through to the terminals, does it just close the terminals or does it actually pass the 110 through them, which would definitely cause a problem for the opener.
Has anyone tried to use a Merten 506004 with Vera? I was thinking it could be used for push button operation of a garage door opener. You could have 4 opener buttons using this or any other number of things like a doorbell or something. Or any of the other Merten blind controllers for that matter.
