Request Fedex check their delivery records. Most of those handheld devices they use record the GPS location and time together with the signature or when the delivery guy hits the delivered option. That should confirm if they actually left it at your address instead of another one.
Happened to me a few months back. My package was delivered a few streets over in the development (similar street name). Luckily the recipient was honest and I found it the next day on my door step. After I’d already requested a check as I received the ‘Delivered’ notice but hadn’ heard back yet.
Since then, if I can, I have UPS/FedEx deliver to my work as we get both of them coming by twice daily. (morning drop off, afternoon pickup)
As I said i’m assembling my own custom camera device for the front door and I’ve found the strangest problem. The camera I want to use is a RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) device that is supported in Blue Iris. My installation of BI runs under Windows XP.
I have five machines in the house running Windows XP and wouldn’t you know it the ONE that will not allow RTSP is the one running BI I was unable to get the camera up in BI so I tried VLC to the camera and that didn’t work either so clearly it wasn’t a BI problem.
I had VLC on my Thinkpad so I connected to the camera without a problem. I did a test install of BI on the Thinkpad and it worked fine also. I then installed VLC and BI on yet another XP machine and the camera worked fine the first time.
So clearly it has to do with THAT particular machine/Windows XP combination. For some reason it refuses to connect on the XP machine that runs the live BI installation. I’ve searched and searched for information to to see if there is a HotFix or a switch that needs to be set in XP but so far nothing. Its very very strange.
My next step is to clone the disk from one of the machines that work with RTSP and swap it for the disk in the live BI machine, thus brining in a known-working Windows XP, reinstall/reconfig everything and try again.
Thanks for the info, I had no idea that their hand held scanners recorded GPS position. Hoping I can get this all cleared up today, also need to send the seller notice of what’s going on.

Odd but then again it’s Microsoft - anything is possible. I’m hoping that BI runs without incident on my 8.1 (fingers crossed) …

@CudaNet: I’m not sure if its the scanner or whatever equipment they have in the truck that determins location and transmits the data and if it’s all over FedEx network. I talked to my mail person today who hinted USPS may be using something like this as well for mail with tracking confirmation.
As UPS navigation is so common these days it would make sense to incorporate location data like that.

Yes, I brought this up after their second call to me yesterday - guy was absolutely clueless and wasn’t aware of any tracking devices within the vehicle or scanner. They ask me all kinds of questions, what does my house look like - any cars in front etc. They even indicated they were looking at my house on Google maps. I find it hard to believe that the driver is going to remember my box out of 100’s that are delivered each day. All in all I was left with the impression that they still haven’t spoken with the driver.
I was able to install the camera by the front door yesterday evening. Placed it on the left wall (door opens on the left; doorbell on the left) a few inches above eye level. The unit is all metal and the lock down screw works really well - no way can this be moved by hand. I’ll take a pic when I get a chance, have one more wire run to do tonight and that should be about it. Now if only I had my POE switch… :
