I’m considering adding a zwave lock to my network. All of the locks on the house are Schlage, so my first thought is to use the Schlage zwave device as well. I’m concerned that a four digit PIN is not very secure, particulary when multiple PINs are employed.
Your thoughts???
As of right now, there are no z-wave type keypads available. You will either have to use the locks keypad or integrate a custom keypad that will interface with Vera and will require writing a plugin and other code to make work. Does the Schlage not allow for long pin codes? The kwikset locks allow for 4 to 8 digit pins.
I have e Yale Deadbolt and it allows for 8 digit pins. Works really well for $200.
Thanks for the responses. Since I have existing Schlage locks, I was going to rekey the zwave lock to match, eliminating an extra key. If I go with another brand lock, that won’t work, I don’t think. Or does the Yale have the same key-way as the Schlage?
The Schlage does go into a 30-second lockdown where no codes can be entered; and it beeps and the LED flash; after 4 bad attempts. This also triggers a Z-Wave event that you can use in Vera to ‘do stuff’.

The Kwikset locks generally have the same keyway as the Schlage locks. I swapped out the Schlage locks with the Kwikset and did not have to replace the bolt.
