Great board I have been trolling for a while and the has enable me to move forward with this project. I have bought the vera lite and a schlage lock and that works well. I recovered the foscam yesterday did the setup and everything worked great from the foscam setup page but … I do not see it on my Vera. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Someone needs to write a book about this😜
Thanks in advance for any help
Did you hook your foscam camera up to the same network that your Vera is on? If so, she should locate and add it.
Have you set the Foscam camera up using the Foscam tool and user ID and password etc? can the tool connect to the camera and is the camera’s IP address in the same range as that of the Veralite?
Please log into your Vera and on the dashboard go to the DEVICES tab, then click the cameras sub tab. Any camera’s there?
On the dashboard, click the SETUP tab, then the Net & WiFi tab.
is ‘Auto detect devices on my home network’ checked? As that allows vera to detect any camera you add.
have you tried on the dashboard, under the DEVICES tab, to do ‘Add devices’ and for type ‘I want to add an IP camera’?
Hope this helps.
I had to add the foscam manually. Go to add device → ip camera → manually add and either select the ip address or manually add it at the bottom → select foscam → after the IP Address make sure you put “:port number” before /snapshot → make sure there is only one “/” before the word snapshot in the URL → enter the username and password and you should now have a camera and a motion sensor.
Also before you add the camera make sure to install the foscam plugin from apps.
I have 4 of these running and love the video plus motion sensors.
What are you guys using the foscam for? I’d like to record video if it detects motion at the front door. Is that possible? I’m assuming the motion sensors use heat detection, so having it inside probably wouldn’t work.
I have 2 FI8910W inside and 2 outside. The inside sensors definately detect movement within their field of vision inside the house.
My dogs trip them constantly.
One of teh outdoor ones is at this time inside behind a window and the sensor on that one does trip. I’m not sure if it trips on movement of the vertical blinds next to it or actually trips on movement on the drive.
I may have to take a tablet outside this weekend and see if walking by it shows the sensor tripping.
It compares snapshots; if they are different enough, it considers it ‘motion’; see this post.
As oTi@ mentioned they compare motion between two snapshots, you can adjust the motion sensitivity from the camera web page interface.
For recording I would push that task to a dedicated machine running Blue Iris (software cost $40), I heard it works very well. I personally don’t have any more windows machines around anymore since I have switched all mine to Mac’s but I may pick up a cheap small form PC just for this task.
Did anyone find a solution to the original problem posted here?
I have two Foscam FI8910W cameras installed with Vera 3 (they work perfectly). I recently purchased a third one and I went through the steps to manually add the camera (Vera would not do it automatically). Vera confirms it added the camera and I can see an image on the confirmation page, but it does not appear on the Devices tab of the Vera UI.
I have verified that the camera is on my home network and is viewable via the Internet.
Why won’t Vera show it anywhere on the Devices tab?
i turned off the autodetect UPnP devices in network setup because it causes problems with my eminent webcam (which i use foscam plugin for) and my samsung es8000 tv.
Can someone run through the steps to install a foscam ip camera with the controls into MCV? I tried adding it manually but it doesn’t even think it’s a camera for some reason after it’s added. I downloaded the XML file but I’m a total newbie and don’t know what to do with it. Thanks for the help.
make sure u use : urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:DigitalSecurityCamera:2 in the device_type
you can change it afterwards to urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:DigitalSecurityCamera:1 or 3 if needed.
have to wait for vera to reboot and then ctrl-f5 to refresh the webinterface

are you sure you are talking about the mios software…lol…nothing seems to be automatic. every damn device needs manual config and still doesnt work. WHat kind of a racket is this. I am returning all the zwave devices if I dont get my issues resolved soon. I cant believe the crap manual config needed now for the vera to see the foscam. Obviously none of the zwave nor mios developers want to make things easy or straightforward. The dashboard is written like some intern had done it in his spare time.
It has detected some motions sensors but I dont see any tripping alerts.
Yes. I’m referring to the MIOS software.
FTR, I added a Foscam 8905 outdoor camera recently and Vera did not add it automatically. It saw it as a Wintop camera. I had to manually add it to get it to come up. The existing 8910 I added in 2 steps of 2 and all of those weer automatic including Vera installing the Foscam plugin.
I have a Wanscam outdoor camera on order and we’ll see what Vera thinks about that one. Not too worried as I’ve installed the trial of Blue Iris on my WHS server and will most likely start using that for primary recording and notification on the camera’s. I’ll still use Vera for eg switching on a light if there is motion detected on the camera and other functions as there seems to be n oncflict between Vera and Blue iris both having a connection with the camera’s.
As for the other devices in my sig, there where very few issues with recognition or inclusion by Vera.
ok, nevermind my rant, on CS suggestion I delete everything and redo, then it worked. go figure…hope it doesnt happen too often where we take the vera to the device as a kind of offering
make a habit of using full power inclusion ![]()
personally i rather run through the house with the vera on cable internet and a large powercord, then use the battery function which doesnt work well for some devices.
FPI never let me down.

Whats impressive is that I never had to be too close to the vera for any of the sensors. Kept them next to me on the sofa, vera like 15’ away, worked a cinch each time, for initial setup even. They must’ve improved the protocol handshake stuff to make it more robust.
I have had similar problems. Had to add the camera manually with the foscam snapshot URL link. After succsfully seeing a snapshot image in the setup I was able to add the camera. When navigating to the devices menu it shows up as an unknown device. Went into the advanced properties and added 'D_DigitalSecurityCamera1.xml" in the device type pane. After a reboot the device showed as an IP camera. I am able to see snapshots bit not live video. When I try pan and tilt I get a"no implementation" error. Any ideas?
Correction: I am able to view live video but not pan/tilt control. Any ideas?
You need to have the proper implementation file with the pan tilt controls.

Ok, thanks for the reply. Is the setup on doing this described somewhere?
